Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Patrick C. McDonald

Pat,

I worked with you only a few weeks ago. You were, as usual, ready to pinch the first felon to cross our path. No stop at Wawa for you, just go and get the pinch (and our first stop was an occupied stolen car). It was an honor to have worked with you. You are the best. The Philadelphia Highway Patrol and the city of Philadelphia were lucky to have you. The city is a little less safe without you on patrol tonight. I will miss you brother. Rest in peace.

I find myself tearfull as I think about PPD Officer McDonald.

Gary Skerski. Chuck Cassidy. Stephen Liczbinski and Isabel Nazario as well.

So to all I send my condolences as well as the following prayer....

The Final Inspection

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass,
he hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as bright as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman"
"How shall i deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord, I guess I ain't
because those who carry badges,
Can't always be a saint.
"Ive had to work most sundays,
and at times my talk was rough
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awfully tough."
And i never passed a cry for help
Though at times i shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept many tears.
"I know I dont deserve a place
Amoung the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fear."
"If you've a place for me, Lord
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where saints had often trod,
As the policeman waited quietly,
for his judgement of his God,
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heavens streets,
You've done your time in hell.

Rest easy Officers
And to your Families.

Thank you for allowing them to protect us.

Pat,

Words can't describe the pain, anger, and loss we are feeling. Please know that we will take care of your family. You were a REAL COP who did the JOB every time you broke roll call. You are a testimony to our chosen profession. Although, most may forget your name after sometime and all the politicians and local media will use your name and never truly appreciate what you did .......WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DID. Philadelphia is out of control and God only knows if it can ever be saved. You stepped up to the plate to stand the THIN BLUE LINE and fought to the bitter end. May the Lord Jesus Christ, Saint Michael, and Saint Patrick welcome you HOME.

Slainte, BROTHER, Slainte....

TO ALL OF THE HIGHWAY GUYS WITH PAT.......
EVERY ONE OF YOU did an OUTSTANDING JOB, as you always do. PLEASE hold your heads up guys...YOU ALL did right by Pat. There is no need to mention names, you know who you are. I'd ride with anyone of you and know that you would do the same again.

"HE WHO, TODAY, SHEDS HIS BLOOD WITH ME SHALL BE MY BROTHER!"

I just wanted to let people know how much Temple University students appreciate Philadelphia police officers putting their lives on the line the safety of our community. I live on Diamond Street and it's scary to think that stuff like this happens right around the corner. I just wanted to take the time to say how sad I am that this has happened, but how much we appreciate and respect police officers such as Patrick McDonald.
