AJ was my brother. A big brother is supposed to go through things first so that he can show the way; but in true Trooper style, AJ put himself in harm's way to protect us and others, and made it through that door first this time.

He died doing what he loved doing - on duty, in uniform, holding the line.

AJ, we're proud of your service, your character, your attitude, and your example. You were a great husband, loving father, faithful son and the best brother anyone could have. We love you buddy. Stand at ease, Marine/Soldier/Trooper - your watch is over.

Words cannot express our gratitude to the NC State Troopers, to all those who hold the thin blue line, and the service men and women who served in the Army and Marines with him.

A grateful family thanks you for your service, and prays for your safety daily.

To the family and friends of Trooper Andrew Stocks and the members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condonlences on the grievous loss you have suffered when Trooper Stocks was tragically killed. To lose two fine officers in such a short time is a tragic loss for your department and community.

To Trooper Stock's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

Heaven may have another hero, but how I wish it wasn't so. In reading his reflections, I can see that Andrew was an amazing man.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Andrew gave to his community and the citizens of North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 9, 2008

AJ Stocks was my NCOIC in Q-West Iraq, from 11 May 06 to 09 Sep 07. I knew him well, and he had mentored me to leave behind the Specialist I was, to be the Sergeant that I am. I will miss him, and he will not be forgotten.

Goodbye, SFC Stocks.

I feel privileged to have known and worked with A.J. He was definitely one of a kind. Always serious and highly motivated. Not only did he serve his State as a Trooper but served his country as a Marine and a Soldier. A.J. was always there to motivate you and pick you up in patrol school. I can still hear that loud voice carrying through the barracks every morning and every night...LIGHTS!!!!! There wasn't much time for socializing but I'm glad I got to know him as much as I did. I'm so sorry you had to leave us as early as you did but I know you were called home for a reason. We love you and we'll miss you A.J. Rest in peace brother.
