We never met. We never had to. I know you. You gave up family events, get togethers, celebrations and holidays.
Your worked long hours and often skipped sleep to go to court to take another scumbag off the street. You lived life large and laughed at life. You had a mourge sense of humor and took pride in your deparment. You put others first and, in the end, layed your life down for a stranger...yeah, I got you pegged.....John 15:13 tells your story. RIP brother, we'll carry on from here. Your watch is over.

All gave some....some gave all. Sgt. Starzyk gave all and we can never be thankful enough for his life. A hero in every sense of the word. May the Lord, our God, bless him for his service and commitment in protecting our city. May God bless and watch over your family in this their time of need.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.

But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
To all who knew Sgt. Starzyk we pray that these words will help you through the dark days ahead.
Sgt. Starzyk will always be known as a hearo. GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Sgt. Starzyk-

My heart was heavy to hear that you had been lost in such a senseless tragedy. I thank you, and your brothers and sisters in blue for protecting us. I thank God we have heroes such as you and I pray that He can bring peace to you, your family and friends.

I check this site often, hoping to never seen another name added to it. It is difficult to put into words the saddness I felt when I heard our community had lost a protector. I never met you but I mourn your death as if it were a friend's.

God speed Sgt. Starzyk,

To the family of Paul Starzyk

It is with my deepest heartfelt sorrow I send you this note on Paul's memorial page, a page I wish his name never appeared on. I know only too well the pain and suffering you are feeling....and know first hand the terrible path you are now forced to walk. I am the mother of 28 year old San Francisco Police Officer (Bryan Tuvera) who was shot and killed the day before xmas eve in 2006, only 2 months after getting married. Just like Paul, my son went into a home to protect the people inside. He saved others, but in turn, was forced to lose his life.
Like Paul's wife, Bryan's wife is also in law enforcement. She works for the same dept that Bryan did. She has yet to go back on the street.

Please know that your friends, his co-workers, I and all the community are with you...holding your hand......and praying with you each and every day. I know that saying he was a hero will never bring him back. I am glad you do not have to go through a trial. Seeing the person who shattered your lives would be VERY difficult.

I recently saw this and wanted to send you this message

Paul,
I know you did not ask for a reassignment, but God is VERY particular about who he selects for his police department in heaven. He chose you. He only picks the BEST....the most honorable, the most dedicated and those that have the greatest integrity. Know that you will never be forgotten by those you left behind. Your love and devotion to your family and your your professionalism at the job will be a standard for all members in the badge to follow.

As you go through the tough road ahead, you will be asked to go to many memorials in honor of Paul. Just know it is okay to say no....You can't go to them all. Sometimes I had to send another member of the family...and sometimes I had to send someone in the department. It was just too hard to do them all. You be the judge and decide what you can handle.

Paul is a hero.....a hero that will FOREVER.......remain in your heart.

My deepest sympathy to you sll. May God Bless you.

Sandy Tuvera
mother of SFPD Officer Bryan Tuvera (EOW 12/23/06)
