Reflections for Police Officer Thomas Emil Raji

"We Expect Them To Be"

It’s falling all around them and still they carry on
It’s a fear I can’t imagine that they walk through everyday
While we sit at home with family and take for granted all the rest
Its there job I hear the people say,
We expect from them nothing less
Then to keep us safe keep us free
Be the hero’s we expect them to be

It’s not what I see those words those people say
I’ve seen the heart the courage that it takes
To protect this world from the coldness and dark
Could you run in when the rest are racing out
To save a life you haven’t met
Would you make the sacrifice, your love, your kids your home, your wife?
To protect those who expect you to be there
When you know it may be the ultimate price

I think that badge they wear must get very heavy
When it carries all the burdens
The hatred and the sadness of this world that they see
How often do they hear the praise they deserve?
I am safe, I am free, and I have hope because of everything you do,
Thank God for the Hero’s we expect them to be!!

Tom,

Rest in peace my brother. I had the pleasure to meet you and hang out with you. We had a great time. You gave the ultimate sacrifice and for that we are eternally in your debt. God has called you home. My deepest condolences to your family, your wife, and your unborn child, as well as your friends and brothers in Perth Amboy.

"Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all"
