Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Robert James Curry

I served with Rob when he was a USAF Security Policeman. He was a good cop even back then in his Air Force days. I remember many of Rob's firsts. When he first became an Air Force SP, when he first graduated Long Beach/USM Academy, when he first got onto GPD, his first STORM class. For as long as he still rattles around in my head, he will always make me laugh. You had an impact far and wide, you reached a lot of people. Rob, even in the end... you still had your glasses on. We'll meet again someday.

I knew Rob thru S.T.O.R.M. I had the pleasure of teaching a couple of D.U.I. schools with him. He was a good police officer and well respected. To Rob's family, He is with our Lord now, and you will be with him again one day. Rest in peace brother.

Rob,

To a true friend who will be missed. You and Leslee embraced my family as your own while I was deployed overseas on military orders. I miss sitting next to you during our morning meetings. I still look for you at briefing in the morning waiting to hear a story about the kids. Rob you were the epitomy of a law enforcement officer. As I climb the ranks in my career I only pray I can do it with the honor and dignity as you. Not only were you a friend, you are a role model. You will always be apart of my life and I will look to you for strength as my career continues. Rob you are deeply missed and will always be in my heart.

Rob, you are a great man. I learned a hell of a lot from you and I respect you more than you could ever know. You are a great leader, a good friend and a true brother to me.

Leslee, God called him home. He is a great father to the kids and a devoted husband to you. I can't imagine the hurt that you are feeling, but please know that Rob is always with you guys. Know that he loves you and those kids more than anything else in the world (even that "new shiny Harley-Davidson motorcycle"). HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. I can't tell you this enough: We love you and are here for you, no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT.

Rob, rest in peace...and one day I'll see you again when our Father calls me home. Till then, rest easy and know that we are gonna take good care of your family down here.

I had the pleasure of serving in the DUI Unit at Gulfport PD for two years with Rob and when I was first put in the unit he was FTO. I was conducting field tests and the suspect started to try and stall time by saying it was cold outside and asked me if I knew how cold it was outside. I looked at him and said, "Sir I'm not a meteorologists." From that day on every time Rob saw me he would asked what the weather was going to be like with the smile he always had. "Rob, the weather where you are at is clear with blue skies." God bless you and your family. You will never be forgotten.

Leslie,
Even though I am no longer with the P.D. please know that I still think of you all every day. I was sad to hear of Rob's death but take solace in the fact that he gave his life doing what he loved. It sounds like God is building one hell of a traffic unit with Rob and Fred (and Allan Legere typing the orders). It will be a difficult road for you and your family but I know you are surrounded by people who love you and will do what ever it takes to comfort you.
