Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Robert James Curry

Where do I begin my friend? I never thought you would be here with my brother. You were the one that helped me through his accident. You sat for hours with me in between calls talking and just listening to me. I know I told you thanks many times!!! But it just doesn't truly express my profound appreciation. You were a friend to many and a brother to all. I am truly honored to call you my friend and blessed to have had the opportunity to work side by side with you!!!! You know that Leslie and the kids are in my prayers... You are deeply missed!!

Lt.Curry,
I have had the pleasure of being a longtime friend of one of your suubordinates, Damas Salas. I retired from the Pinal CO SO in 2001 after a dear friend of mine was killed while on duty. What a devastation to us LEO's, family and friends. I can imagine what your agency's brothers/sisters endured!

Rest assured you ran into Jason Lopez (EOW: 5/2001) up there already for he never met a stranger.
Patrol the gates of Heaven and watch over your brothers and sisters in law enforcement who risk their lives daily. God spared me and I retired! RIP!

Rob,
Gee, this is so hard for me because you were not to leave us so soon. You are a GREAT friend to me and you helped me out so very much with reports. I miss your smile and your laugh especially when it was at my expense (when you would blow that dam horn) You and Jerry Birmingham at DUI class kept my glass filled at all times. I miss talking to you about my troubles because you really listened. You really made an impact on me on how to handle situations that I thought I never could. You know Leslie and the family will be taken care of because we love ya. I go by your graveside and hope you hear me becasue I do miss talking to you. You and Leslie were a match made in Heaven. You both were meant for each other. She struggles everyday as I see her, as we all do. I know you are watching over her and you are her gaurdian angel. "Who'd You Be Today" is the song I remember and I always think of you. I wish you would have recorded that song you wrote for me... it was too funny. It all came about when I gave this helpless guy 5 one dollar bills and he went to the cowboy gas station and stole a car. Gee, we sure had alot of laughs. Thanks for being such a great friend and a caring one too. See you soon my FRIEND. I will never forget ya.... Love you Leslie...

Rest in Peace, Lt. Rob Curry

To those who loved Lieutenant Curry, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Robert will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Lieutenant Curry for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne

I had never personally met Rob but,had heard many stories through my brother officer John E Grant. when i heard of Rob's death and the emotion in my brothers voice i knew i had to pay some respect working in a busy ER as a registered nurse we all work together, we are family we spend as much time with the police, nurses, medics, rather than our own family most of the time so it hurts real bad when we lose some one. my thoughts and prayers go out to Rob's wife and children the right words still don't come to mind i just know have good people in Mississippi taken care of you. as to my brother please stay safe on the roads of gulfport because i do love you

I first met Rob in 2002 while he was a DUI officer. Afterwards, Rob became my Sergeant and then Lieutenant. Without a doubt, Rob was a great mentor and officer. He will always be in thoughts and his family in my prayer. God bless Rob, Leslie and the rest of his family.

Rob, it's been several days since your funeral but I still find it hard to put these thoughts on paper. You led from the front and established a sense of pride for all who worked with you. There is not enough space hear to list the laughs we shared together over the last 14 years so I leave it to something you taught me as leader, "Family First". Motors Honor, I promise that your family will be first and rest assured that Leslee, Kristen, and Trevor will be taken care of.

It is unfortunate that I only had one chance of riding your wing because it was so obvious that you enjoyed your feet and knees in the breeze.

Your presence here at the P.D. continues through your legacy you built. From reading other reflections posted there is no doubt that you left a lasting impression on all. I will continue to miss your laughs and jokes. In thought of what Ricky posted, I'll bring you a towel when Our Heavenly Father calls me home.

Ride with the wind Rob, your watch is over so let us take it from here.

LT,
I did not the opportunity to meet you, but we have a mutual friend that was a former co-worker of yours and mine. I was on vacation and called our friend to try to meet up. He advised me of the accident, and we were not able to meet due to his need to be back in MS to help support friends and family.

As a member of law enforcement, rest peacefully knowing that friends like I mentioned above are looking out for your family.

My thoughts are with your friends and family at this difficult time.

On May 20,2008 I signed the NLEOM guestbook after spending part of memorial week in DC. In that post I wrote "I saw the names of officers with whom I had worked with and had trained and those whom I had never known and yet knew them all too well. Those names carved in stone will now and forever stand for the true heroes of this country and for those who we do not know yet to be carved there.I thank you for your service and sacrifice". On August 18,2008 they buried my friend and co-worker, Lt.Robert J Curry. And next year they will carve his name on that wall and call his name at the candlelight services. Rob and I spoke minutes before his fatal crash about another officer's funeral who had been murdered and had attended barely a week before and talked about other past events. We didn't talk about the future, but if we had I would have told him how proud I was of him and the accomplishments he had made since my retirement. When I retured to the department to work part-time he said two things to me, "welcome back and you can't have your badge number (107) back!" Truth be known Rob brought more honor to that badge number than I ever did. And now rightfully so, the department has retired it. Rob was so proud of being a police officer and to be a member of the Gulfport Police Department. He will be missed greatly and we are all better for having known him. The last thing you said to me Rob was "I'll catch up with you later". I truly hope so. I really do. Godspeed my friend and goodbye.

Rob you were a great mentor and a true friend. I am glad I had the opportunity to attend the motors school together before my injury which allowed me not to finish the class with you. I still remember the first day of class, when you saw me drop that bike and I can still here the words you told me. "Salas, it is going to be a long two weeks for you, and then you laughed." You will be greatly missed by us all. Look out for those motor guys while you are up there and also for the rest of us officers. See you on the other side buddy.

It is not displayed but the badge number is 107. It has been retired and will never be worn by any Officer for Gulport again. I worked with Rob all of my 12.5 years with Gulfport and have been in Law Enforcement for about 26 years. I have never met an fellow officer that had more love for the brotherhood that Rob. To let all you know he got the hero's ride and you should have all seen the send of party after.
Leslee you know how I feel. I vow to continue what I think was started from this.
