Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Dennis Carl Compton

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Compton and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Compton, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Compton is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

I worked with Dennis at the Fredericksburg Dialysis Center. But we were not co-workers, we were friends. I knew him when his hair was down his back, not the short hair cut required for an Officer. We had so many laughs working there, he made a stressful job easier. All my thoughts are for Dennis and his whole family who he loved dearly. You will truly be missed by all who knew how wonderful a person you were.

To Officer Compton - Dennis you will sorely be missed by family and friends. But I know that Steve was there waiting for you in Heaven with open arms. And I know you two are "playing a bigger guitar now". Rest in peace.

My heart breaks as I read of the loss of this great officer. I pray the family can take confidence in knowing that justice will be served, whether in our time and way or in God's. God has promised never to leave you so lean on Him as you make your way through this difficult time and through life without Dennis' physical presence. Hold fast your memories of him for in those he lives forever.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the Compton family. I went to Hayfield high school with Dennis and we graduated together in 87. I myself became a Police Officer 2 years ago. Dennis was a crazy guy and always had a smile on his face. Im sure that he is smiling now. Denis you will be missed.
Sincerely.

The Police Officer's Prayer to Saint Michael:

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people.

Amen.
