When William Smith was born in 1894 in Ashers Fork, Kentucky, his father, Millard, was 23 and his mother, Jane, was 22. He married Sallie Valentine on July 30, 1921, in Straight Creek, Kentucky. They had four children during their marriage. ,Deputy Sheriff William Smith was shot and killed in a shootout with a suspect on Christmas Eve in Pineville, Kentucky, on December the 24th 1930 at the age of 36, and was buried there.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 88th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

William Smith was my great grandfather, not much is known about who really killed him, I am glad he is honored on this page.
