To Officer Surles wife, children and staff of the Pell City Police. Finding words that can comfort at such a time our
more than difficult, often impossible. I remember the soul
wrenching pain when I lost my youngest child at 14 years of age. One thing I remember is that my world stopped. I found
it impossible to understand how the sun could still shine,
birds could sing, and the moon dared to come up when my whole world had seemed to end. But someone gave me this simple
analogy that gave comfort and I hope it brings you comfort in your grief. The healing process takes time and you can’t get there without pain. It’s going
to hurt and it’s going to hurt for a long time. Grief isn’t forever, even though
it feels like it. As long as you love someone and they are absent from you,
you will grieve. Grief is caused by loss and until that day when you are
miraculously reunited, you will grieve for them. But that day WILL come.
God promised. Grief isn't forever, but LOVE is.

1 Corinthians 13:8 states, “Love never dies.” There will come a time when
you will be reunited with your loved one.
Keep that appointed time close in your thoughts to help you get through the
tough times. You can do this. Your life may never again be the same, but it
can still be a very good life. God still has many good things planned for you.
Another of His promises found in Jeremiah 2:9!

I lost my little boy and I tell you the pain was so great I truly believed that pain
that gripped deep into my soul would literally kill me. Then came a day more horrible
where I realized that I would not die, but would instead have to learn to live with
this soul wrenching pain. Unable really to function from the dark fog I could grasp
little. Initially I could understand one small thing. I hope it is of some help to you.

Officer Surles entrance to heaven is not the end of life,
any more than a cocoon is the end of the life of the caterpillar.

What the caterpillar believes
is the End of the World,
the butterfly knows
is the Beginning!
Hold tight to that

I didn't know Greg as well as some folks around here except for 22'n here and there for the past few years, usually at Henson's Garage, but from the conversations we had I could tell he was a great guy. I know his Parents, Sister and Brother-In-Law well and they are just wonderful people. My heart goes out to them along with his wife and children. May God Bless Them through this trying time and give them the strength to carry on.
