I am so sorry for the loss of such a great man. I met Gary with Matt in Lake Charles. He was such a fun guy. You could tell he loved his family and I know he will be missed greatly by them. I recently lost my mother and I feel for his family. I will miss his smiling face and I pray for his family and his fellow officers.

Our hearts are broken tonight with the loss of one of our own. Words simply cannot express the sadness and grief we all feel. My heart goes out to your wife and son, and I pray that they feel the support of the entire department. I pray that they are comforted as we lift them up in prayer. You were taken from us way too soon. May God richly bless you for your sacrifice and may you rest in peace.

To the family of Officer Gryder I would like to express my sadness and anger at this senseless death at the hands of an intoxicated driver. Another good officer has been taken too soon by a person who was too reckless and careless to even care about his own safety, much less the safety and welfare of others. We will miss Gary dearly and he will not be forgotten. I hope and pray the citizens of Harris County give the person who did this a long time in prison to ponder the results of his terrible and stupid decision.
