Reflections for Correctional Officer Jose Rivera

To the Family, Friends, and Co-Workers of Officer Rivera my heartfelt sympathy goes out to each of you. I pray that each of you may find comfort through the many memories which have been left behind. Please know throughout the difficult days which have yet to come that each of you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Officer Rivera, I didn't know you, but you are my brother. I pray that your loss will not be in vain. Thank you for your service and standing on the line with all of your brother and sister Correctional Officers. We do a job that so few others would do. “In The Line Of Duty”
In Memory Of All Police Officers
Who Have Been Called To Make The Ultimate Sacrifice

What is the meaning of "In The Line Of Duty"
It means that an officer made the Ultimate sacrifice.
It means that someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen. Officers who gave their all
To protect and serve us
Have been killed by someone whom they swore
To protect and serve.
It means that their badge will no longer be on their chest
And they will join "The Best Of The Best"
It means that family and friends are left behind
To deal with the lost of a loved one.
Only having the memories of that loved one
Close to their hearts. Something no one can ever take away.
It means that family members will stand at the officers grave
And wonder why... Why would someone take an officers life
And leave them there to die?
If we only knew. Today an officer will place their badge on their chest
To fulfill the dreams of heroes killed "In The Line Of Duty"
Another officer's life taken because someone didn't give respect or value another's life.
We will keep all who knew Officer Rivera in our prayers and thoughts and no he was a HERO.

I grieve the loss of a fallen brother, and I shed tears for him, his wife and unborn child, his family, and his co-workers. Every time a staff member goes to work inside the gates of hell (translation: prison), they walk among the worst human beings society has to offer: rapists, murderers, predators, gang members, sexual deviants and the like, and our lives are in constant danger each and every day. Rest peacefully, Officer Rivera. We will carry on our mission of keeping society safe while we remember your ultimate sacrifice.
