Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Anthony Shane Tate

Rest in peace my brother. We have the watch now.

Officer Chris Urquhart
Fredericksburg City P.D. Fredericksburg, Va.

I PICK UP THE NOTE,
WRITTEN BY CHILD'S HAND.
SUCH YOUTHS INNOCENCE,
STILL CAN'T UNDERSTAND.

"I MISS YOU DADDY,
PLEASE COME HOME AGAIN,
WILL YOU BE HOME SOON?
MOMMY WON'T TELL ME WHEN."

I FOLD THE NOTE UP,
ON THE WALL FIND THE NAME,
IN LIFE A HERO,
IN DEATH THE SAME.

THIS PLACE TO REMEMBER,
WHEN OFFICERS FALL,
A TRIBUTE OF THANKS,
TO THE NAMES ON THE WALL.

IN STUNNED DISBELIEF,
HERE YOUNG MOTHERS CRIED,
SHATTERED FUTURES REALIZED,
THEIR DREAMS HAVE ALL DIED.

YOUNG CHILDREN EXCITE,
AT THE NAME THAT THEY READ.
NOT ABLE TO KNOW,
THE DEPTH OF THIS DEED.

A WIFE STANDS NUMB,
AS TEARS WELL IN HER EYES,
THEIR TENDER LOVE LOST,
LATE AT NIGHT HOW SHE CRIES.

A FATHER STANDS THERE,
HIS HEAD BOWED IN SORROW,
SOMEONE KILLED HIS DREAMS,
FOR HIM NO TOMORROW.

A WOMAN NOW WEEPS,
SHE NO LONGER CAN BEAR,
A PART OF HER DIED,
SHE PRAYS HE WAS HERE.

A YOUNG MAN AND WOMAN,
SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER.
AS THEY TRACE THE NAME,
OF THEIR FALLEN BROTHER.

A MAN HOLDS HIS HEART,
HIS MOUTH LOCKED IN A FROWN.
HE WHISPERS "I'M SORRY,
I LET YOU DOWN."

HE WISHES IT HIM,
THAT WAS KILLED ON THAT DAY,
TO CHANGE NAMES ON THE WALL,
IF THERE'S ANY WAY.

EVERY PERSON THAT'S HERE,
SHARES A BOND THROUGH EACH NAME,
LINKED BY ONE PAINFUL DAY,
THEIR LIVES NEVER THE SAME.

THEY SACRIFICED ALL,
TO SERVE AND PROTECT.
NEVER ASKING OF YOU,
NEVER FINDING RESPECT.

EACH YEAR WE ADD NAMES,
ABOUT EIGHT HUNDRED MORE,
TO SAINT MICHAEL'S TEAM,
AND WORK HEAVENS TOUR.

I SEARCH THE WALL,
MANY MORE NAMES I KNOW.
AS I LEAVE THEM A PRAYER,
WITH EACH STEP I GO.

THIS JUST A JOB,
I'VE BEEN TOLD OF LATE.
NO JOB HAS A WALL,
FILLED WITH NAMES KILLED FROM HATE.

THE GHOSTS COME ALIVE,
THROUGH EACH NAME ON THE WALL,
NOW ANGELS OF GOD,
STANDING HEAVENS ROLL CALL.

I was one of the fortunate officers that attended the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy with Deputy Tate. He was a great friend and a great person that loved his wife and kids dearly. He will be missed greatly. Class 1349 will always remember Deputy Tate as part of our lives and we will continue to pray for his wife and kids and the rest of his family and friends and community because they have suffered a great loss that cannot be replaced.
