Reflections for Police Officer Erik David Hite

To the Hite family and all the friends and co-workers of Erik. I am terribly sorry for your loss. Reading the reflections left, it sounds like Office Hite was a good, kind and loving man. You are all in my prayers. Just keep in mind what a Hero he was to go out there and put his life on the line, day in and day out. Men and women like that are true Hero's

My heartfelt sympathies to your family. I am so saddened by your tragic loss. My thoughts will be with you today and in the days ahead as you forge through uncharted territory. Please know that I think your son, husband, dad is a hero. God is there even if it doesn't feel like it. Remember that Eric is keeping watch over you and loving you from a different place - right next to God's throne.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Erik Hite. There are no words that can express the loss that we all feel at this time. Thank you Eric for ur service in the United States Air Force, and also for your service to Tucson.
The policemen stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward, now, policemen.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policemen squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometime I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the policemen waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done you time in hell."

Erik, I first met you that first day of Academy. Man, you seemed to be the only one that wasn't really nervous. Cool and collected. Made sure we all came with tennis shoes rather than dress shoes. I remember you trying to teach all of the non military people how to face left, face right, about face. You got flustered and just let it go. That's how I remember you, you not getting too upset about anything.

I thank you for teaching me how to ride my motorcycle even though on our first ride I nearly took off my leg. I thank you for always being the positive one in the locker room. I thank you for what you did and why you did it.

I'm deeply saddened by your loss, I was called by my Chief Dispatcher just before I was going to sleep. You see, Cindy called to tell me what had happened. Class 04-01...it's hard on me as I type this knowing how proud you were that you were having a baby. That was right before I left for Seattle. You told me good luck and stay safe. I don't know why this would happen to someone like you and I can't pretend to understand it. All I know is that you were a man of faith and I pray that you are in a better place now.

Nohemy, I am so sorry for your loss. Erik was a good and honorable man. He used to give me snippets of wisdom as we passed in the locker room. He would nudge me back on track if I faltered.

Erik, I will miss you. We all will miss you.

"Rest in peace now brother, the watch is ours."
