Reflections for Sergeant Leslie Eugene Wilmott

I had the great fortune to have known Les and serve with him on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association for several years. Les was a true professional. His hard work and dedication to service have left his mark on our association and the police service as a whole. His accomplishments and the lives he touched live on as a living tribute.

My wife Anita and I and the Family of our Son, Leslie Eugene Wilmott would like to thank all the people who have expressed their sympathy on this web site. Our Son was the husband of Jerrianne, father of Robbin [Wilmott]Becker, Jake & Matt. Grandfather of Max & Maycee Becker. A father-in-law to Scott Becker. He was also a Brother to Bonny Fletcher, Brother-in-law, Son-in-law, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew, and a Police Officer for over 30 years. He believed in a strong Family. He was a teacher in his Church where he often taught drug intervention classes.

One of his favorite sayings was "DO DRUGS AND DIE-DO NOT DO DRUGS AND LIVE." He also taught fellow Police Officers firearms use, and many other subjects. He often said that the crime rate was due to the breakdown of the family unit. It would not get better until Churches, schools, courts, and other agencies got involved in the education of families. Although our Loss is Great, our Faith is Strong, and with the help of our Church Family and our Law enforcement Family, the Oklahoma Sheriff's Peace Officer assoc., Fraternal Order of Police Chiefs Assoc., Tulsa County Sheriff's Dept., and all other Law Enforcement agencies, we are slowly dealing with our Loss. We try to remember that the LORD said "BLESSED ARE THE PEACEKEEPERS" and the LORD also said "I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU." We Sincerely Thank You.

I was fortunate enough to have had the best teacher, and co-worker,and friend in Sgt. Wilmott. He was as close to perfect as a human can get,and the crazy thing was he made it all look so easy. When you met Les you automatically just had to like him. He taught us at Kiefer that above all, you had to trust the guys that you work with, because they might be the difference between you goin home or not. Les taught my academy fireams block, and I learned more than I had in the military about shooting, and also developed a love for it.Thanks Les, have fun in heaven "john-wayne'n the door!

I am also a Criminal Justice major at NSUBA and had the privilege of knowing Les through Dr. Z's Juvenile Justice, Evidence, and Sr. Seminar classes. Due to Les's extensive law enforcement experience, Dr. Z often used him as a resource to give us real life applications to the theory being taught. He had the respect of not only his fellow students, but his professors as well.
As a member of his NSU family, my sincere sympathy goes out to his family and Kiefer PD. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I've known Les For a little over 18 years. He was the full time officer, over the Reserve Police Officer Program at the Rogers County Sheriff's Office.
This is where I started my career in Law Enforcement. I owe a lot of good memories to Les. He always was upbeat and had a smile on his face.
He also started the SOT Team at RCSO which I was a part of. He would train us hard as he knew it might mean the difference between life and death one day.
I had lost touch with Les as he had moved away from this area for work opportunity. It was only recent that my wife had a job interview with Les' wife and learned they had moved back to the area. She gave my wife Les' number.
I had this remodel project going on at my house as my twin girls were about to graduate high school. Then we went on vacation. I was mowing the yard yesterday thinking to myself I need to call Les and see if he wants to get together to talk about old times and discuss what was new.
I learned today that my good friend has passed on. I regret not taking a minute out of my busy schedule to call. I guess God needed a SUPER COP in heaven.
Les was a great, caring, compasionate man and loved his family very much. That love extended to his law emforcement family as well.
I can say I am a better police officer because of the things I learned from him. He was a career law enforcement man as his dad was a Deputy Sheriff with Tulsa County. He will be missed.
My heart goes out to his wife, kids, and the rest of his family. He loved them so much and it showed. I personally know his wife and all 3 of his kids. They all will need your prayers during this trying time.
For now good bye my friend and I look forward to seeing you in the next life in heaven whenever that day may come.

I worked with Les at Claremore P.D. for several years. I knew him personally to be truly a good cop, a devoted and loving family man, and a good friend.

I remember that his birthday was one day before mine, and for several years we'd tell each other "Happy Birthday" and laugh. Les loved Mexican food and several times, we, as he put it, "hurt ourselves" on it!

Les was a pleasure to work with, always had a smile on his face, and was totally devoted to law enforcement. He performed his duties with professionalism, competence, and, above all, compassion. A modest man, I'm sure he'd be embarassed to read all these reflections about himself!

My sincere condolences go to Les' wife, children, relatives, and friends, of whom he had many....
Les will be missed.
