To the Griffin Family --
I have been retired from the GBI for a number of years and started my law enforcement career at the Georgia State Patrol. One of the greatest things about working state law enforcement in Georgia is that you travel the entire state over the years and get to meet and work with so many fine, outstanding local police officers and sheriff deputies. It's been a day or two since I passed through Decatur County, but I know that they have had many outstanding law enforcement officers working there over the years and I'm sure that Robert was one of them. God grant you peace and know that he will always be remembered by your family and by his extended family in Georgia law enforcement. God Bless you all....

To all who knew Deputy Griffin we send our prayers and you will be in our thoughts especially in the dark days ahead.
DS Griffin not only served his community but also his country.
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.

But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I once received a poem that is brought once again to mind by this tradgedy. The poem pointed out the dates on a tombstone from birth to life and went on to say that while those dates were important, the most important thing was the dash in between. It said the dash in between represented the years between life and death and that only those who knew and loved that person could know what they meant. So at this time try and reflect on the dash and all this fine man was to each of you. May God bless your family and envelope them in his loving embrace.

Dear Family, Friends and Co-Workers of Deputy Griffin,

As a survivor, each EOW notice hurts no matter who it is or where they are from. You still feel the same pain and emptiness. We are so sorry for your loss and your family will be in our prayers through this difficult time of your fresh grief. Keep focused on the memories and joyous times for these things help bring comfort. There are many people who care and understand; but, God is the one who is prepared to help us through that loss with His Love, Grace and Peace.

Deputy Griffin, thank you for your service and dedication. Neither you, nor your sacrifice, will ever be forgotten. Watch over your family as they face this long, dark journey without you giving them the love, guidance and support they will need. Watch over your brothers and sisters in uniform as well. May you rest in peace.
