Reflections for Trooper James Scott Burns

It saddens me every day when we have to add another face to the ultimate sacrifice list. You gave your life for us and we thank you for that. To your wife and child and exended family, god bless you and please stay strong. It gets easier, believe in yourselves, believe in God and most of all believe in Trooper Burns, he is a "True Hero".

My heart is heavy this evening after learning this tragic news. Scott, or "Beedie", as he was called while we were children, was a good friend and classmate while we were growing up. We, as a class, had a lot of great times together. The path he chose to take in his life in the last few years was very appropriate for him. He was always respectful, kind and strong. I was proud to hear of his accomplishment. It takes a very curagious person to go into that line of work. He protected the communities we grew up in and the same ones a lot of our families still live in today. I will forever be thankful to him for that. My prayers go out to his wife and new baby, his family and close friends of today, and also to his brothers and sisters who continue to serve and protect us and our families every single day. He will always have a special place in my heart and childhood memories.
There will never be another "Beedie"!!!!!!!!!

JUST ANOTHER DAY

It was a day like today.
Just another day.
“Hours of Boredom Punctuated With Seconds of Terror.”
Just another day – but a day unlike all others.

The day the defender became the victim.
The day the chaos breached the “thin blue line”.

To Trooper Burns' Family and Friends: May he rest in peace in heaven beside the throne of the almighty God. You are a true legacy that will never be forgotten. Our thought and prayers are with Mrs. Burns and Scott's entire family as well as his DPS family. I am the wife of Trooper Chris Callaway, Gilmer DPS and I work in the Sheriff's Office. We are a close-knit group and this weighs very heavy on all our hearts. May God Bless and keep all our law enforcement families safe.

I have know Scott Burns for a long time, but I've known his parents longer. I remember all the times that I went to buy feed and all the times that Scott would load my feed for me. I was pround for him and his parents when he became a State Trooper. Scott stopped me one Wednesday night on my way to church, of course I couldn't find my DL, ins. or anything else, cause I had changed purses. I said "Scott you know me , Just let me tell you my number while I look." I'm gonna be late for church. He told me in that kind voice of his "I'll have you on your way in just a minute "mam" you have a light out on your license plate." Of course after everything checked out and I finally found all the stuff he told me to be careful on my way to church. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. And I am thankful that the man that did this is no longer here to hurt anyone else.
God Bless

Sir thank you for your unselfish service to the citizens of Texas and this country. It is so hard for me to imagine those hateful enough to kill our fine men and women in blue, however, it is a sad reality in the world we live in. God bless you as you walk the streets of gold. We now have one more fine angel of the law in the skys watching over us as we patrol our beats. God bless your wife, daughter, family, friends and department through these horrific times. Godspeed
