For many years this officer stood the watch... While some of us lay about at night, this officer stood the watch...
While others of us were attending schools and, yes, even before some of us were born, this officer stood the watch...As our families watched the storm clouds of war
brewing on the horizons of history, he stood the watch...
Often he would look around and see his family needed his guidance, but he knew he must stay because,he had the watch...For many years he stood the watch so that we
and our fellow citizens could sleep soundly in safety knowing that this officer would stand the watch.

Today we are here to say...
"The watch stands relieved..."
Relieved by those you have led, guided, and trained...

Scott and I were teammates on the Texarkana College baseball team. Nobody hustled or played harder than Scott. He was a morally strong and God fearing individual who led by example. Everyone on the team loved Scott. He will be missed. East Texas has lost a true hero.

My heart broke again tonight as I checked ODMP and saw that Trooper Burns had been taken from us. It's always hard when a brother officer is killed; but for me, it is even harder when the officer was the father of a young child. The child doesn't understand why this happened to them, they only know that their Daddy is gone.

Every night when I put my 3 year old to bed, part of our prayers are the following: "God bless all the policemen, firemen, and soldiers who keep us safe. And Dear Jesus, if you should call one of them home tonight, give them eternal peace and grant their family the strength and courage to carry on." On Tuesday, April 29 my son and I prayed for Trooper Burns.

Our continued prayers go to all of Trooper Burns' friends, co-workers, family, wife, and especially his daughter. May she grow up knowing how much her Daddy loved her and know that he is a hero!

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP
I AM NOT THERE, I DO NOT SLEEP.
I AM A THOUSAND WINDS THAT BLOW.
I AM THE DIAMOND GLINTS ON SNOW.
I AM THE SUN ON RIPENING GRAIN.
I AM THE GENTLE AUTUMN RAIN.
WHEN YOU AWAKEN IN THE MORNING'S HUSHED LIGHT,
I AM THE UP-FLING OF BIRDS IN FLIGHT.
I AM THE SOFT STAR THAT SHINES AT NIGHT.
DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND CRY,
I AM NOT THERE
I DID NOT DIE.

Scott will forever be all of these things, just as he will also be one of the chosen angels that watch over us all. He chose to protect us on earth, and he will continue his watch from up high. I take comfort in knowing that you are watching, and one day will see you again. Some give all...thank you.
