Reflections for Trooper James Scott Burns

RIP brother. You have performed a job well done. In Philadelphia we have lost 3 officers in 22 months this is not a job for cowards. I know what it is like to perform the same job as you did on your final call. We are silent heros when we are alive, but when we are lost in the line of duty we shout it out loud ... I am a hero! Walk your beat to heaven my friend, there will be 1000's just like you awaiting you arrival.

You know I just can't get Scott out of my mind. All that I have heard about, read about & with the experience of the funeral. In some ways I feel less safe knowing now that Scott is not out there protecting all of us. But it is a feeling that I never knew of before, because I took our saftey for granted. But on the flip side, I feel safer because "the criminal" is no longer out there somewhere. Although there are other "criminals" out there everyday that we are being protected from by all of the other officers. There are just somethings we don't miss until they are no longer there.
Thank you is not enough to ALL OF YOU that put YOUR life on the line everyday. Thank you for YOUR dedicated committment to our saftey.
Thank you is not enough to ALL OF THE FAMILIES that stand in support of "their hero" everyday when they leave the home, knowing it may be the last. The last on this side of "Jordan". See you on the other side Scott.
My Love & prayers to all the family.

Scott, I don't really know where to start. When I go past your office I still expect to see your grinning face or hear your unmistakable chuckle. You have and always will be a true and great friend. For those that didn't know you, it is a fact that everyday when you put on your uniform, you went to work to make the world a safer and better place. You never shirked a task, and no one ever had to check to see where you were....you were always there, in the forefront. This much I know........you will always be remembered....you will always be loved!!!! I miss you partner, 'til we meet again......... Rick

Thank you Trooper Burns. My heart goes out to friends and family, I pray that the peace of the Lord will help bolster them in this tragic time.

"But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- "

Such a huge loss and I am so sorry this is now your reality. May God carry you when you are too weak to put one foot in front of the other.

With Hope - by Steven Curtis Chapman

This is not at all
How we thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
There's a place where we'll see your face again

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...

We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so ...

So we can cry with hope
And say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
There's a place by God's grace
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again

We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope....
