To a Sheepdog and a Warrior: "If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior's path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door."

Written by Colonel Dave Grossman

Remember Owens Family: We sheepdogs are still here to protect you.

To those who loved Officer Owens, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Derek will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Officer Owens for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne

To the wife and children of Officer Owens:
I just wanted to let you know that you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I pray for God to continue to provide you with comfort, peace, strength and healing TODAY and in the days to come.
I was very pleased to see that a memorial will be built in the inner city in Officer Owens memory along with the scholarship fund that has been created by the Cleveland city coucil. Truly God is getting the Glory out of the impact that your loved one had on the city of Cleveland. Although his passing was tragic- the legacy that he has left is truly a great blessing.
Be Encouraged in the Lord! know that Officer Owens has left his seed (children) and they are apart of his legacy. I know that they will grow up and impact this city and nation in a positive way just like their dad did.
God bless you
