Reflections for Trooper Kara M. Kelly-Borgognone

Thinking of you this Christmas season. Ashlyn is getting so big. She looks more like you every day. She said that the Christmas tree is up and you would like the way it looks. I love you sis and keep looking over all of us.

I miss you, everyday. There is not one day that goes by that I don't think about you, and miss you. We are all "getting on" with it, but we are not the same. You would be proud of us, and still it isn't enough. It will do, and it will be "fine"...
Your daughter is growing, and I hope you approve of what I am doing with her, and how much. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't enough, and sometimes I wonder if it is to much.
Your brother misses you, and his pride for you is overpowering.
Love you sissy...miss you.

We met your family on 4.4.09 when we came to honor those who had given the gift of life to others. Thank you for your service and the second chance you gave to those you helped. You are a shining star and will continue to live on in the bodies and hearts of those who knew you and those you so selflessly donated to. God Bless you

I worked in Reno at the Parole & Probation Office and had the opportunity to work with Kara a number of times there and when she was stationed in Fallon. I wish it had been more. And thanks, Kara, for listening to my "alibi" at the range more than once!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

To Dirk and children, to Kara's Mom and Dad, her siblings: I share your anquish in losing a beloved family member which I believe is life's greatest sorrow. Time never diminishes love. You are in my heart's embrace today. May God grant you solace.

Rest In Peace, Kara. You are so beautiful in your picture. I am sorry you were robbed of your life at such a young age. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

THE THIN BLUE LINE

Among us, sent down from heaven,
Are those that walk a Thin Blue Line, that's a given.
Like Guardian Angels to watch over me and you,
Are those that wear the uniform of blue.
We see them only as traffic stops,
We do not call them friends, just cops.
We pray we never have a chance meeting,
We never pass along a greeting.
But they are so much more than this,
They simply do not see the world as bliss.
But they look into the corners of our deepest fears,
They walk the beat, they wipe a tear.
They bring a message to our home,
When all is not well, and you are alone.
They come to us, no matter the need,
Handle the problem, complete the deed.
They lay their personal feelings aside,
They do their job, they have great pride.
And if one should fall, among life's things.
The badge they wear, turns into wings.

Dear Kara,

Today is Christmas and we miss you every second of the day. It's not the same with you not with us and we are doing the best we can. Dirk and the girls are hanging in there and Dirk is really doing a great job raising the girls in the way we know you'd be happy with.

I know this is a special day and Christmas Eve was the night Dirk proposed to you and it was such a special time. He loved you like no other and still does too.

Your Mom, Me, Chris, Mike, and Lauren and also Dirk, Ashlyn, Blair, Tobi, Shelley, Pat, Krista and Kayla will all be together today and we will be thinking of YOU and missing you today more than ever.

I love you my dearest daughter and always will and my heart is broken at losing you. You are a true Hero Kara.

Love you always,

Dad

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABE!!!!

Dirk
Husband

November 8, 2008

I have gotten to know your husband at the police survivors camps we have been to this year. He passionately loves you and is teaching your girls how much you loved them. Through him, I have gotten glimpses into the type of person you were. He is so proud of your accomplishments on the job and brags about how tough you were in such a difficult field. He had to celebrate your anniversary without you on Sunday. It was so hard to see how much he misses you. Looking at your wedding pictures just brought tears to my eyes.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about your family and pray that God will carry them through this difficult time. You served your community well and gave the supreme sacrifice. You will never be forgotten.

To those who loved Trooper Kelly-Borgognone, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Kara will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men & women never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Trooper Kelly-Borgognone for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. If you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

Thank you for your service. Even while giving your life for this service you thought of others by donating your organs. Thank you to her family for the gift that you were able to make in such a traumatic situation. May it give you comfort to know that her sacrifice helped others one last time.
