To the family and friends of Officer Dukes,
I am a Sergeant in a small police department in New Jersey. In less than two weeks I will be participating in a bicycle ride leaving from Liberty State Park in NJ and ending at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC. We make this trip to honor the memory of fallen police officers. I will be doing this trip to honor the memory of your service to the citizens of New Orleans. You will not be forgotten.

It seems that to be on the N.O.P.D. these days, is to suffer enormous heartache. Although, far too many other agencies seem to be no more immune.

I wish to thank Officer Dukes for his years of service and sacrifice. And to thank and commend him for standing and fighting when he knew that the odds were against him, but that action had to be taken anyway. THAT is what courage and heroism are indeed all about. (Someone want to tell me what his neighbors were doing, during all of this)?

I want to extend my deep condolances to Mrs. Dukes, all of their loved ones, the N.O.P.D., and all the rest of their family.

It would seem to me that as young Officer Cotton walked through the gates of Heaven, she had a good friend waiting to greet her, and make her feel right at home. Not that Heaven has ever lacked for the presense of two good saints such as these.

May God watch over you and your loved ones, and your brave brothers and sisters in blue around the world. May He comfort your family, as he gives you rest and peace. Until that joyous day when you all meet again Sir.
