My prayers are with your family. We lost one of our finest pillars of the LAPD. Often I would see you at Elysian, and say to myself that's how I want to carry myself. WHAT IS A HERO?"

ONE WHO NEVER HESITATES TO TACKLE THE MOST DIFFICULT PROBLEMS...

ONE WHO IS ALWAYS BY YOUR SIDE...

ONE WHO KNOWS RIGHT FROM WRONG...

ONE WHO ACTS WITH PRIDE...

A HERO TOUCHES EVERY ONE OF US, WHETHER IT BE WORD OR DEED...

ALWAYS TENDING TO THOSE WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN NEED...

WHEN A HERO LEAVES THIS EARTH, YES, IT'S SAD BUT TRUE..

ALL TOO MANY TIMES, THE HERO IS DRESSED IN BLUE.
(WRITTEN BY ERIC DERENZIS)

My thoughts and prayers are with your family on this difficult time. You are a True American Hero. May you rest and peace. We will never forget.

There are absolutely no words that can express how full of sorrow I am for your loss. Ofcr Randy Simmons was a member of LAPD's "best of the best." Years ago I was assigned to the Metro Mounted Unit. I’ve known many who have worked SWAT, and I know how close the team members are. Even though I’ve been gone for a while now, I’m still LAPD in my heart, and this tremendous loss cuts like a knife. I’m proud to have been a part of LAPD and especially proud to have at one time been a part of Metro. My heart aches and my tears fall. I pray that every loss our police family suffers will be the last, though I know it will not. Randy joins the many officers who have gone before him and who now watch over and protect us. So once again I find myself writing a reflection. To Randy’s family and friends, God bless you. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss. To my LAPD family, I say the same. To Randy, I say rest easy, my brother. We have the watch.

First off, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to Officer Simmons' family. I attend the same church as he and his family and have had the honor of hearing him speak and pray during weekly church services. He was definitely and truly a man of God, and he walked and lived his life according to the Gospel. Minister Randy... you will truly be missed. God be with you through your eternal journey. We'll see you in Glory when God calls the rest of his soldiers/children home. God Bless.

I knew Officer Simmons for just one day at a non-profit organization event with children who have critical health issues. His leadership, compassion and instant level of comfort with each child was so pure that it makes one call to question ourselves. Do we teach enough, are we patient enough, can we listen a little longer? I knew Officer Simmons for just one day, and how grateful I am. May he rest in peace and may his family and friends be continually motivated by his spirit.
