I have lost a hero. You came to Franklin County when I was a young man. I looked up to you. I remember you stopping me a few times for speeding and telling me about being smart and being safe. It was not about the ticket because for some reason you never wrote me one. I guess you saw something in me. I saw something in you and I listened to you. We became friends and I decided to become a police officer. Twenty plus years later I sit here in tears because I have lost a brother and I have lost a friend. Rick, I will miss you so much and I will pray for your family. You have done so much for so many. I can’t believe you’re gone.

When one hears of another brother falling, we will immediately have a rush of all types of emotion. The one that was real for me was shock and disbelief, another brother, friend was gone. I have no doubt where he has gone to having had this conversation with Rick just a few months ago about another fallen brother. Rick spoke of the faith that he had in mentioning the word's that gave him strength. Our years of serves in law enforcement allowed us to reflect on what we had seen not only in our on area, but across the nation of just how quickly a brother can fall, we both agreed on the risk and that we could have retired from it. As we brothers continue in the service of our communities, let us truely reflect on the life of service that Rick chose. We have assurance that tribulation produces perseverance, which in turn builds character. Thank you my brother for your perseverance which now shines a light on your character!
