Reflections for Police Officer Nicola Diane Cotton

To my fellow sister in Law Enforcement I am so proud that you did not give up the fight. The Lord called you home with that precious baby and now you can rest, we will take it from here. May God bless your family and your department. Thank you for your courage.

I cannot believe you are gone. I miss seeing you in the hall and with you telling me about a burglary or robbery. I know you are in a better place so I will try to find peace in that.

We all have our missions in this life. Some are long, some are short. Nicola, I hope you made the most of your time because you deserved a better fate. God bless and live in the Lord's house forever.

My prayers are with your loved ones at this time of sorrow. The Thin Blue Line got a little thinner the day this community lost you. You are an Angel looking over all of us now.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

In High School you see friends everyday, pass strangers in the hall, and sit next to heroes in class only most of the time we never know it.I did not have the pleasure of getting to know all that you are but your dedication and sacrifice to help restore peace to a city in need of heroes makes me feel blessed to have ever been in your presence.

For my sister in Law Enforcement.
Thank you for giving all you had for the citizens of New Orleans. Heaven is graced by your presence and the Lord will look upon you with favor for your service to others. I am praying for your family and departmental family. My they find peace in the knowledge that your death was not in vain. You probably save dthe life of this monsters next victim. Your memory will keep other officers safe as they go out on patrol. Every arrest they make will be safer as your memory and spirit remain with them and protect them. God Bless You Nicola!

There is a hole in the Blue Line today
We lost a dear family member in gray.
Down in the “Line of Duty” he went
His full time here not yet fully spent.

His family and friends, they now gather near
To remember how it was, when he was here.
With sliding tear and trembling smile,
We know we won’t see him again for a while.

We reminisce and laugh a bit
At the thought of him not getting into it
With other gray brothers and sisters too
Chasing the bad ones and catching them too.

Now the Bagpipes are silent and the quiet descends
We know that our time with him never truly ends.
We feel him near on our daily patrols
Sitting there watching as our day unfolds.

But we know as we go along driving our beat
There is an angel there in the passenger’s seat.
Guiding our thoughts and our hands through the day
Keeping us clear of harm’s deadly way.

There is a hole in the Blue Line today
We lost a dear family member in gray.
Down in the “Line of Duty” he went
His full time here not yet fully spent.

We miss you.
God Speed My Brother.
