The Thin Blue Line

There is a line the color of the sky on a clear afternoon
There is a line the hue of the ocean on a bright sunny day
There is a line the purest shade of a newborn's eyes awakening for the first time
There is a line that protects us from harm in all we do
whether day or night
There is a line no one can penetrate no one can alleviate
There is a line made of those who choose to follow a calling many do not hear and still more do not comprehend
They choose to walk the path of fear, hate, and mistrust
taken by so few but marked by so many And when one leaves this line they leave a legacy but the line does not break
for the remaining must still protect There may be emptiness
a loss, or sadness but never a hole not in this line
This line that holds the ghosts of the souls who have gone
and the souls of the ghosts who will be

What a terrible, terrible tragedy this is. An officer off duty stepped in to assist in a fight and ultimately was mistaken for a suspect. That terrible mistake resulted in him being shot and killed by another officer.

My heart goes out to all of you...the family of the fallen officer...and the officer who mistaken shot and killed him. This will haunt him forever. Each and every one of them were trying to do the right thing.

My prayers are with you all as you try to deal with this awful tragedy.

Aloha e Police Officer Christopher A. Ridley,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe will NEVER be forgotten.

I pledge to become a continuum of the "ODMP Light" in which Visionary Founder, Chris Cosgriff created for all Fallen Law Enforcement Officers. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here on the ODMP a heartfelt reflection on behalf of a fallen officer.

Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP serves as a place where that continuum of "LIGHT" can be felt through the heart and soul of each and every person who honors our fallen heroes with a reflection.

May God comfort the family, loved ones, friends, and fellow officers who have lost their beloved one. May the reflections left fill the void until the light within shines again, as your fallen hero is at rest with Jesus Christ and his soul has been set free. Feel the warmth of his smile from Heaven, he’s watching your back now. He’s that hero who can never be replaced in this lifetime. I light a candle in your honor.

I wish you peace and love beyond all understanding. You are embraced as one of Hawaii's own with integrity, respect, and fairness as you are a fallen hero. You will never be forgotten. 24-7-365 THANK YOU BLUE.
