Detective Jarrod Shivers family, friends and colleagues,
May God be with you in this time of sorrow. Know that there are many out there that share your pain. I hope that God will lay his healing hands upon each of you and ease the pain that you are feeling. Hold your memories of Jarrod deep and do one thing each day in memory of him. Place a blue light in your window in his memory so that everyone that sees it will remember him. Also know that Jarrod has a great friend in heaven with him, Dep Jason Saunders.

Jarrod,
We all have lost a true hero and friend. Your encouragement, smile and friendship made the 22 weeks of the academy bearable. On the street, it was comforting to know that even though you were working in another precinct you would not hesitate to come back up another officer. Hearing your voice saying you were on your way, I knew I would be ok. Shipmate, you first served your country and then your community, always giving of yourself so others may be safe.
Jarrod, be assured that while you are watching over us, we are watching over yours and we will do all we can to keep them save.
Fair winds and following seas brother and rest in peace you will never be forgotten.

Another brave soldier in the never ending war on criminals in our country has been killed by a cowardly enemy. May the ruthless criminal responsible for this murder be brought to justice and sentenced to the most severe penalty. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. My paryers go out to you and your family. Thank you for all you did to make Hampton Roads a safer place for us all

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain;

I am the gentle Autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush.

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there;

I did not die.

Beginning

- In loving memory of fallen Officer Jarrod Shivers to his wife

Heart gently pounding, cool winter air fills lungs
Eyes weary, hands shake, unsteady

Lying to rest an officer, a father, a warrior
A husband, a friend, a brother, a neighbor
A hero

Holding tightly to life’s sweet memories
Leaving, leaving this world
Never let go, clutch to possibilities

Ending, ending so bold
Honorably closing a chapter
To open another, as a proud mother,
A sister, a warrior, a friend, a neighbor,
And above all a hero

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

We have the watch now. Rest my friend!

Thanks for all the work you have done my friend.
