Rest in peace Jarrod. To the Shivers family I would like to send my condolences. He was a great guy, always had a smile and a hello. I was unable to pay my last respects on Tuesday as it was the same day we laid my brother to rest. Know you all were in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be.

Beautiful Soul
By: Officer Dorienne Boykin
Chesapeake Police Department

-Gone Beautiful Soul, but oh so not forgotten
-You were one to count on in times of need, so how do we say goodbye?
-Our hearts ache each day as we come to terms that you are gone
-Are we selfish, because you were called away from us so soon?
-Of course, but we know your Beautiful Sout was needed elswhere
-I guess we have to be thankful that we had you for the time we did
-To show us what a true Beautiful Soul is
-I only hope that as time goes by we all can learn to live as you did... Beautifully
-I know we long for the day that we are able to tell the manchild who carries your name what a Beautiful Soul he only knew for a short time
-So don't forget to keep a watchful eye over us as we continue on
-And know we will finish this journey and keep you in our hearts... Beautifully.

“I answer the heroic question 'Death, where is thy sting?' with 'It is here in my heart and mind and memories.” -- Maya Angelou

Aloha e Detective Jarrod Shivers,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe will NEVER be forgotten.

I pledge to become a continuum of the "ODMP Light" in which Visionary Founder, Chris Cosgriff created for all Fallen Law Enforcement Officers. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here on the ODMP a heartfelt reflection on behalf of a fallen officer.

Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP serves as a place where that continuum of "LIGHT" can be felt through the heart and soul of each and every person who honors our fallen heroes with a reflection.

May God comfort the family, loved ones, friends, and fellow officers who have lost their beloved one. May the reflections left fill the void until the light within shines again, as your fallen hero is at rest with Jesus Christ and his soul has been set free. Feel the warmth of his smile from Heaven, he’s watching your back now. He’s that hero who can never be replaced in this lifetime. I light a candle in your honor.

I wish you peace and love beyond all understanding. You are embraced as one of Hawaii's own with integrity, respect, and fairness as you are a fallen hero. You will never be forgotten. 24-7-365 THANK YOU BLUE.

Shivers
Although I did not personally, you helped me on a number of occasions. You were always there to lend a helping hand, never complaining about anything. I remember the last time I saw you...we were joking over your military vest and I saw nothing but a smile on your face. I know heaven will be a safer place now. We have the watch now brother!!

It was an honor to serve as Jarrod's Chief on the flight deck of USS Theodore Roosevelt. One recurring theme at Jarrod's funeral service was what a personable and congenial person he was and his willingness to lend a hand. He was my hero as he served the nation and the commonwealth, I only hope that I can carry on his legacy of service. To Jarrod's family and the entire law enforcement community (especially the City of Chesapeake), may God keep you in his loving care and help to heal the hurt caused by this loss.

An Officers Life......

You wonder why he pulled you over and gave you a ticket for speeding"
He just worked an accident where poeple died because they were going to fast

You wonder why that cop was so mean
He just got done working a case where a drunk driver killed a kid
____________________________________________

You work for 8 hours
He works for up to 18 hours
_________________________

You drink hot coffee to stay awake.
The cold rain in the middle of the nite keeps him awake.
__________________________

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He goes into work still hurt and sore from the guy he had to fight the night before
__________________________

You drink your coffee on your way to the mall.
He spills his as he runs code to a traffic crash with kids trapped inside
__________________________

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket before you leave the house.
He makes sure his guns is clean and fully loaded and his vest is tight
__________________________

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He watches his buddy get shot at, and wounded in front of him.
__________________________

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He walks down the highway looking for body parts from a traffic crash

You complain about how hot it is.
He wears fifty pounds of gear and a bullet proof vest in the middle of July and still runs around chasing crack heads
__________________________

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He runs out before he gets his food to respond to an armed robbery.

You get out of bed in the morning and take your time getting ready.
He gets called out of bed at 2 am after working 12 hours and has to be into work asap for a traffic homicide

He holds the hair of some college girl while shes puking in the back of his patrol car

You roll your eyes when a baby cries in public
He picks up a dead child in his arms and prays that it was crying
__________________________

You criticize your police dept and say they're never there quick enough.
He blasts the siren while the person in front of him refuses to move while talking on their cell phone and doing their makeup.
__________________________

You hear the jokes about fallen officers and say they should have known better.
He is a hero and runs into situations when everyone else is running away in order to make sure no one else gets hurt and lose's his life doing it

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He would take a bullet for his buddy without question

Brother,
I attended your funeral services today. The service was truly fit for a "Hero"! After listening to your CPD brothers speak about you, there is no doubt you were a cops cop. Your selfless service to your community, your fellow officers and SWAT operators will be greatly missed. As the funeral procession headed down Battlefield Blvd. I looked a forward and back and as far as the eye could see there were blue lights, the side of the road was lined with citizens paying their respects to their fallen warrior, children crowded the sidewalk in front of an elementary school clutching American flags. In that moment I realized just how many lives were touched by your service and dedication and I think maybe for once we got it right, a perfect farewell to a true hero. Rest in peace my brother, go and rest high upon the mountain, we'll hold the line and answer the pager till our time comes. To your family and friends know that Jarrod will live on in our actions to defend all that he was willing to lay down his life for. Your sacrafice and dedication will never be forgotten.
