Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Ricky L. Bryant, Jr.

I am deeply sadden to hear of these tragic deaths. I coordinate off-duty jobs in Richmond, and it breaks my heart someone would take another life so senselessly. The man was protecting others and trying to make a little extra money for his family. Officer Bryant gave the utimate price. He gave his life for his family and friends. I pray God's Blessing on his family and that he will help to ease your pain a little more everyday.

My New Watch

I began my new watch today and everything’s going fine.
I just wanted to let you know that I would be checking in on you from time to time.

It’s really different here, but in a good way,
Although the change was sudden, rest assured there is nowhere else I’d rather stay.

I work with a crew of true heroes, who always do their best,
They always do their part, and watch over all the rest.

I can’t change what happened on that fateful night
But remember that I will forever continue to fight.

Please tell my family I love them and I’m with them all the time.
Help my wife when I can’t and give a kiss to that sweet child of mine.

I walk a new beat that seems so far away
But you can reach me, and I’ll back you up, you only have to pray.

I have to go now for there’s a rookie on the street.
I have to do my part, for it’s not his time to walk this special beat.

In memory of all our fallen brother’s and sisters of Law Enforcement

At times like this, we all grieve..
I too know how you feel as two of our officers were assassinated the same way last April, walking through an apartment complex, not even seeing it coming.
I work off duty as your officers did, thinking, "When and if this will happen to me."
My wife and I send our prayers and mourn your loss. To the Dekalb County Police and all fellow officers remain strong and remember the "Family of Blue" is with you in mourning all over the U.S.

So often you go unappreciated and unnoticed. You pull up behind me and I get nervous, I see you in front and I get irrated that I cannot simply speed by. Then tragedy hits and I realize how much more you do. That you risk your life so I am safe. When get in your car each day and drive into the station, do you realize this? Has it become a mundane task for a paycheck? Until the day something abnormal happens, until the day two of your fellow officers whom you see everyday get gunned downed. Then the community sees, then you see... how much you are needed. I know, next time I see an officer pull up beside me on the freeway, I will feel relief. Next time one pulls behind me, I will feel appreciation. Next time you get in your car to go to work, will you feel pride? Pride that you carry the name "Dekalb County Police." Pride that those who fought before you died to protect us. Pride that you do the same everyday. Thank-you my Police Officers of Georgia. And bless the family of Ricky Bryant.
