Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Eric Cecil Barker, Sr.

This is so unfortunate that two people who were protecting so many could be murdered by some of the same people they were willing to die for anyway. I used to work for Dekalb and so this hits very close to home. I pray for the families of these officers and I hope that a higher power can bestow a comfort upon them that we on Earth can't. I agree that Officer Barker and Bryant are heroes. I thank them personally and I pray that they know how much all of us love them. They truly are now safe and can no longer be attacked, ambushed, or harmed. We have to find a way to take comfort in that.

To the family: He knows that you love him and he is still here with you, just in a different form. I pray for you continuously. God Bless.

To Dekalb Police Officers: I pray for you daily as I do for my own officers. God Bless you. You are loved though it is not often shown to you. I personally want you all to know this. From my heart to yours, you are also appreciated and respected. Please be safe and continue to protect those who need you.

“In The Line Of Duty”
In Memory Of All Police Officers
Who Have Been Called To Make The Ultimate Sacrifice

What is the meaning of "In The Line Of Duty"
It means that an officer made the Ultimate sacrifice.
It means that someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen. Officers who gave their all
To protect and serve us
Have been killed by someone whom they swore
To protect and serve.
It means that their badge will no longer be on their chest
And they will join "The Best Of The Best"
It means that family and friends are left behind
To deal with the lost of a loved one.
Only having the memories of that loved one
Close to their hearts. Something no one can ever take away.
It means that family members will stand at the officers grave
And wonder why... Why would someone take an officers life
And leave them there to die?
If we only knew. Today an officer will place their badge on their chest
To fulfill the dreams of heroes killed "In The Line Of Duty"
Here we are again to pay our respects to an officer who was doing the kind of work he loved and his life was taken away by a split second by someone who did not have a bit of respect for another's life.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

At times like this, we all grieve..
I too know how you feel as two of our officers were assassinated the same way last April, walking through an apartment complex, not even seeing it coming.
I work off duty as your officers did, thinking, "When and if this will happen to me."
My wife and I send our prayers and mourn your loss. To the Dekalb County Police and all fellow officers remain strong and remember the "Family of Blue" is with you in mourning all over the U.S.

These were two of my brother's from my agency and it hurts worse than any other Oficer Down Memorial that I have read in the past. This will be two of five fellow Officer's that I have personally lost (four in the line of duty) since I've been with Dekalb County. Like the other three officer's before them these two men were father's. I kiss my little one's goodbye everytime I leave the house just in case and with today's events it breaks my heart that these men will never see there children again. Also today while out on the crime scene what really touched my heart most was that I saw surrounding agencies in the Atlanta metro area(APD,GSP Gwinnett,Doraville,Marta,Dekalb Marshall's and Sheriff Department as well as the Fed's FBI,ATF and US Marshall's) come together as brother's and sister's in an attempt in catching these heartless killers. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and forgive me if I forgot to mention your agency.................... Its not what these men did that made them hero's its how they live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You paid the price that we all in this fraternal organization dread to do! It is one price that I refuse to pay, however, if it is God will then I will pay without any hesitation or reservation! Unfortunately it was time for you to pay the ultimate sacrifice! I appreciate the payment and service that you have made! Rest assure that your life and sacrifice will not be forgotten! We will find the individuals who are responsible for this senseless and heartless act. They also will pay for their worthless and cowardless actions! Until we patrol again:
Rest in Peace! Thanks for everything! Service well done! Mission Accomplishment!
