I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Smith. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Frank, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Frank's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Frank's life was about so much more than the way he died. Frank will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Smith, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

It's foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.

They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.

And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.

Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.

Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.

For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...

And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

God Speed Brother Motorman...

Motor Officers

I am a motor officer
Some say like no other

It is a steel horse I ride
And I can not hide my pride

I sit on steel, leather, and chrome
as it is over this land I roam.

I took a hard fall
when I answered my last call.

Although there is a tear on your cheek
remember it is with my God I meet.

I now ride on Heaven's warm streets
where the sun always shines on my new beat.

I've traded in his hard helmet
and now wear a golden halo.

I am with the other fallen Angels
who also answered no last call.

Know that everything is alright and I am fine
as I now ride with a new thin blue line.

For the day has come.
My God has called me home.

He said I need you here on this new beat
to ride and protect us on Heaven's streets.

You are My Motor Officer.
And I say you are like no other.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Smith and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Smith has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Smith, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Smith is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.
