Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Christopher Nicholson

You served our community with honor and respect. You gave the ultimate sacrifice when called to the line of duty; but now your shift is over, the radios are silent and the tones have ceased. Shine your light down on those whom bear the shield, watch over and protect them from harm. Thank you for your courage and bravery; and my deepest condolences to your family and friends.

Chris,
You were my first love, my high school sweetheart, and we spent four incredible years together. I just want to let you know that you have and will always have a special place in my heart, and I will always love you. I hope you know how many tears have been shed not just from me and my family, but your family and friends and many more. You didn't deserve this but at least you were doing what you always loved! Obviously God had a far greater plan for you, and I hope that you Rest In Peace and that we all meet again one day. My deepest sympathy to family and friends.

The tragic death of Officer Nicholson leaves me choked up beyond words. I first heard about his death on Thursday morning when I saw a fellow deputy wearing his mourning ribbon across his badge. I did not know Chris, but the news was like discovering you lost one of your own family members.

I pray for Chris' family, friends, and the town of Smithsburg while dealing with the loss of a hero who demonstrated such true courage. I pray that God provides you comfort in your time of grieving. Let his service today not only be a time for grieving but a time to celebrate and honor his life.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Nicholson and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Nicholson has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Nicholson, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Nicholson is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.
