Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Vu Nguyen

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 4th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I continue the fight before the California legislature to keep intact the justice a jury and judge gave your family, my family, the families of CHP Officer Thomas Steiner, Oceanside Police Officer Daniel Bessant, and Glendora Police Officer Louis Pompei as well as the civilian victims of jlwop inmates.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace.

Vu:

I did not know you, but I have come to know you. Your best friend has shared how amazing you were - a man of exceptional integrity, a man of courage, a man of love for all. Your legacy has spread all the way to Chile way I work with your old friend. I offer these words to share that, even after your tragic passing, you live on as an example to us all.

Peace.

Vu,

I can't believe its been two years. I feel like it was just yesterday. I've passed on lessons learned from your death to many officers and I know that many others are still passing down lessons learned from you every day.

We're all working hard to carry on the reputation and hard work you left in our minds and hearts.

Rest in Peace brother,

I went to junior high and high school with Vu. I remember him fondly as a sweet boy who never offended anyone and was filled with integrity. I was very shocked and saddened to hear of his death recently during a 20 year HS reunion. May the Lord keep his families safe and comfort them knowing he was a great boy as a child and an even greater man as an adult.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.

I knew Vu in college. A friend of mine just told me about his passing. I cannot believe that such a great person as Vu is gone from this world. He was so nice and so real. In todays world you cannot find anyone like this. I am so heart broken that he has passed. He was such a good person!
I will always remember you Vu.

Hi brother,
It has been over a year since we lost you.
We all miss you so so much!!! This has been the
hardest challenge our family has ever endured.
I am use to your calm voice, telling me, "it's ok."
This time it's not ok.
The get togethers are not the same without you.
We miss you everyday! We love you so much brother!!
I have been reading all the reflections people have written
To you. You are so loved!!
Thank you everyone for all your support and prayers for our family.

Deputy Vu Nguyen:
I have meant to write under your Reflections, before now, but it has been too painful. You see...you and my son were both shot and died within twelve hours of each other, on the same day, under similar circumstances, on different coasts.
Thank you, Deputy Vu for your sacrifice and service. May the Good Lord continue to watch over and protect your family.

One year ago, you gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the citizens of the County of Sacramento. That's how you were. You gave it everything you had, no matter what you did. Sacramento County is a little safer today because of heros like you.

Not a day or an hour goes by that I don't think of you. I wear a memorial bracelet every day in honor of you, our friendship and your ultimate sacrifice.

Rest easy Brother, we miss you.

I am a friend of Vu's since 1976. I can honestly say that in the time I was lucky enough to share with Vu I can't remember a negative word from him. Vu was as loyal a friend as there is. Vu lived with honor and pride like few of us only strive to do so. His funeral was both beautiful and one of the most helpless feelings I've ever endured. I love you and will always miss you.

Deputy Vu - My little brother Dective Kent Haws of Tulare County Sheriff's Dept. was shot and killed just a few days before you. I was at the Sacramento memorial and met your sweet wife. She and I hugged, her eyes spoke the words she did not know how to say. I had the pleasure of sitting by her side in Washington D.C. and holding her hand - so tiny. Your brothers in law enforcement stayed close to her - protecting her like you would have. I feel her pain and wish you and my brother were still with us, although I know you are with us always in spirit. I am sure you and my brother are busy in Heaven as it seems like Jesus is taking his warriors home. There must be a reason why you both were called so young. I will keep your wife in my prayers. Hey brother,

Was thinking about you today... My buddy was talking about going to the Casino and I remembered the time a group of us went out there and I had a bit too much to drink. Being the good friend you were you gave me a ride home. Bro, not a day goes by that myself or someone else that knows you doesnt talk about some story like this. You left a legacy by your actions bro and we all miss you greatly. Until we see each other again...
