I met VU in college and like many others found him to be a role model and one to look up to. His kindness, integrity, and brotherhood was something we all respected. Everyone always knew VU he would do great things. We alwayys figured he would be director of the FBI or something similar one day. Sacramento was fortuante to receive seven years of his life because i know he made a difference. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and ask you remember your son and husband is a true hero and one that won't be forgotten. Once again this job has stolen a piece of my heart.

Vu, I just heard of your death - a day after. It was like getting suckerpunched, I couldn't breathe. This couldn't possibly be real, it must be a mistake! I remember all the times when all us brothers would hang out together. I always enjoyed our conversations. You were always a class act and a man of high integrity. I remember talking to you before you made it out of the court and into patrol. You couldn't wait. We hadn't talked for a while. I didn't even know you'd made detective. I guess the Sheriff's Dept knew what kind of person they had just like the rest of us knew.

Vu, there could never be enough words for all your friends who loved you to tell you. Brother, Thank You for the honor of knowing you! Everyone of us is better off.

Rest with God Deputy Sheriff Vu Nguyen, your shift is over. Watch over the rest of us who will cover your beat from here. You will never be forgotten!

Your Friend and Brother,
Peter Parra

Vu Nguyen and I were colleagues at Sacramento County's juvenile hall in the late 90's. I crossed paths with him several times downtown after he transferred to the Sheriff's Dept. and I was transferred downtown. I was shocked to learn he was the officer involved in the shooting and my heartfelt condolensces go out to his family and loved ones. He was always kind, courteous, took the time to say hello. I'm saddened by his death.

It’s been over 20 years when you and I were football team mates at Modesto High School. Last year our paths came together at a gang conference where we both learned we were again team mates, fighting crime as gang detectives for our respective agencies. We will take it from here brother. Rest assured that we will continue to fight the battle against this cancer that plagues our streets.

You have paid the ultimate price serving the community to the best of your ability. We all know you are at a better place now, but still our hearts are in pain. God bless you, you are a true hero.

I will keep your wife, family and your co-workers in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace.

Until we meet again…

Our heart goes out to Vu's wife and family. Vu was the nicest guy that you could ever meet. He was getting ready for his new life with his wife. He took pride in his work. All he ever wanted to do was to serve and help others. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. We will pray for his love ones who are left behind.
