Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Kent Haws

Brother, I was looking at past photos of us at search & rescue trainings and I came here today to read the reflections left for you and your family. My heart still aches from that fateful day. Know that you are always in my mind and heart.

Kent, I worked with you in the mountains. You treated me as an equal and a fellow co-worker. I was honored to stand beside at work, and over you at the end. It was you who inspired me to strive for more, answer the call, and do the right thing. Rest in peace brother, I will do my best to continue the great work you started.

I found this lovely site by accident and felt the need to leave the following to this good man's memory:

You stand in the breach
Courage braced against the darkness
Of those too cowardly to stand with you
They do all they can to excuse and protect
Those who would do harm to the decent and the innocent
They hide in the shadows of every state, county and city
In our forgotten America
Their oath to stand for the dignity of those
They represent is but a stain on the fabric of true freedom
But to those who hear of and remember your sacrifice
To those saved by and protected by your fallen
Brothers and sisters
To you we raise a toast and simply say thank you
For job well done

I know that you are in very good company up there. I have found a very dear friend in the woman you left behind. If you will take care of mine I will take care of yours, and in doing so we will stay strong until we all meet again.

Kent was a wonderful father. Looking back now at pictures with his boys you can see the love in his eyes that he has for them. He is dearly missed and I promise to help his wife and boys anyway I can everyday to keep them going. Kents death was a horrible tragedy that I hope nobody ever has to go thru. I think of him everyday and I see him everyday in his son's faces.

Tio Kent,
Its has been a while now and I can not say how much I miss you and how much we all do. Everyone is doing ok now but still remember the curves of your face is hard to get over. I don't know what to say, because I know if I say to much I will just start to cry. All i Can say that will explain how I feel is "I LOVE YOU", and "I MISS YOU EVERYDAY". I Know you are some where better and i know God is taking care of you know. They say when it rains god is crying. Well when you had past it was raining and I know it was because of your death and how we lost a great soldier. You were great and inspired us all to do good. I will see you again some day and I Love You!
Always Yours Truly,

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Detective Haws. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Kent, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Kent's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Kent's life was about so much more than the way he died. Kent will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Detective Haws, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
