On behalf of myself and my department I like to pass on my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Officer William Freeman. I was in Huntsville this weekend when I learned of Officer Freeman's death. The lost of a fellow brother in blue is never easy to take. As a firearms instructor for my department, I have passed on the information surrounding Officers Freeman's shooting as a reminder to fellow officers. I hope that in doing so, your loss may act as a reminder to other officer and someday save their life.

Our thoughts are with you!

No greater love has a man than this: To lay down his life for a friend. The City of Huntsville lost a friend on December 15, 2007 as Officer Freeman gave the ultimate for the people he served. Go rest high on the mountain my brother your work on earth is done. To your family I say thank you for the sacrifice you to have made and my prayer is that someday your pain and sorrow may ease.

To the family of Eric Freeman. Eric was one of the most dedicated Police officer that i have known in my career. Eric wanted to be the best police officer that any one could be, and he was. I first met Eric when he was in the Academy and I trained him in Groundfighting. While he was a rookie in training i would see him at the precinct and he was so excited to get cut loose and start work. When he did finally got cut loose and was a solo officer, he was always at work early, sitting at the table in the role call room just like a kid waiting to go to the store and buy a toy.

To Eric's children,
Your father was an Honorable man, an Exemplery police officer, you should know that your father will always be remembered as such. You can always be proud of your name, and who your father was, and who he still is to all those officers who worked directly with him, or who knew him in passing, or those citizens that were helped in whatever need they had. May God Bless you, and one day we will all see Eric again in Heaven.

Well Brother
I don't believe that I ever had the pleasure to meet you, but I can see from everything written what kind of a great person you are. Yesterday my little girl asked me why I had a black band on my badge. Her being three years old, I told her that a friend of mine that was a police officer had gone to live with jesus and that was how we mourned and showed respect for your sacrifice to everyone you touched. She asked me if she had met you and I told her that I didn't think she had and that I did not believe that I had the pleasure of meeting you myself. She could not understand how I could have lost a friend if I had never met you. I can only hope one day she can understand what I couldn't explain to her about bond law enforcement officers have. You will be missed greatly and you are a friend.

As a second generation and former officer with HPD, I am saddened and devistated...I am praying for Eric's parents, his wife, five children, every friend who knew him, and every police officer who served with him. Tribute to a Fallen Police Officer
By Sandra Winter

We knew this person
as loved one and friend,
giving service;
walking tall until the end.

Honor their memory
with sweet tender thoughts,
and keep a warm place
for them in your hearts.

Our brothers and sisters
laid to rest,
in hallowed ground
who gave their best.

To the God of Love
this fallen- yet rising star,
receive into thy kingdom
yonder afar.

A crown of jewels
they fought the good fight,
giving their life
every day and night

Do you hear the voice
a beautiful sight,
an angel beckoning
go to the light…

To the children of Officer Freeman:

I just wanted to express my sorry for your loss. I did not know your father personally but I know others who are sworn to the same duty and service he provided.

Your father is a hero simply because he performed a hero's job. He put on his uniform each day to protect and serve others.

You'll probably never really know the impact your father had on other people. Even people he had to protect by writing a ticket or taking them to jail are indebted to your father. He likely saved countless lives just by doing his job.

I know this is a tragic time in your lives. Just know that, "this too will pass". May God bless you and the rest of your family and thank you for allowing your father to be a part of those who protect me and mine.

Condolences,
