So strange today, while watching events unfold in Boston, and being frustrated at being unable to help...Maddy came into my mind...and calmed me.

She was such a good cop. She was tough as nails when she needed to be, but sweet was her nature.

We lost touch when I left PSA5, and I was so sad to hear of her death (while I was at another cop's funeral).

I'm not surprised that she's still helping me cope, all these years later.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. We will never forget the sacrifice of any of our 9/11 heroes, I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you for I know both their pain and ride are forever.

Rest In Peace.

My heart hurts and I am deeply saddend to find out you had past. I still remember how we joked and laughed as we went through the process of becoming Officers. You were my friend and I will always love you for that, and I will miss you deeply. I'm sorry I didn't see you before you moved on. But your spirit and bigger than life personality will forever live in my heart. Love always your friend.

Maddy, Just thinking of you today. I miss your funny faces and your antics in the office. Wish we had more time together on this universe. I think about you all the time and my last visits with you in the hospital. Your advice to me is always with me but I have not accomplished it yet. I hope to gain the strength and discipline.

Your friend,
Cheryl

I think I speak for all of us when I say there are no words to describe how very much we miss Madeline and what an unfillable void has been left in our lives.

She was my sister, and she was incredible.

Madeline had a heart of gold. Even though she was a police officer for over 15 years, she still believed the world was good, and she always had a kind word and a warm, friendly smile for everyone. She was kind, considerate, caring, loyal, and brave. She was beautiful, inside and out.

Madeline loved being a New York City police officer, and she carried out her duty with pride and dedication.

Her children, Cynthia and Orly, and her grandson, Brandon, were the center of her universe, as were Mami, Papi, her brothers, sisters, and all our kids, her nieces and nephews. I always remember when my son Nelson was very young (she was only 7 years older than Nelson), he liked to talk, and she would never get tired of listening to him. I am happy she and my grandson Daniel met (she made him laugh hysterically in Vegas and California when he was a couple of months old) but I'm very sad that as he grows he'll never know personally this wonderful, special person that was my sister.

With Madeline, it was always more about her family than it was about her. Not afraid to die, to the very end she worried more about us than she did about herself. I firmly believe that her constant reassurance to us that she was OK with her fate is what's keeping us all standing today.

I miss her every single minute of every day. She is and will be in our thoughts and in our hearts all the days of our lives, and our lives were better for having her with us for those all too short 41 years.

I know (we all know) she's in a better place, and we will have to try to continue to survive by remembering all the wonderful, fun, and happy times we had with her and the joy and unconditional love she brought to our lives.

Rest in peace, my little sister. I love you and I miss you more than anyone could ever imagine.

Love, Your Sister Olga

My name is Luis Santiago, and Madeline was my aunt.

Before I share with you a letter that my mother has written to her, there is something I wish to say (on my mother's behalf) to everyone that has been kind enough to lend their time, support and words during this arduous year;

On behalf of the entire Carlo Family, I want to thank each and every one of you whom have been supportive of Madeline and our family during this very difficult time. Please forgive us for taking so long in formally thanking you, but it is still a day to day struggle just to accept the monumental loss we have been dealt. It is because of this support that we manage to go about from day to day, so again.. we thank you.

There is so many things I want to say right now, about how Madeline lit up a room when she walked in, about how she was the life of the party. Anyone fortunate to have known her knows exactly what I mean by that.

Madeline was one of a kind.

Not to deviate, but I have kept my mother's letter as true as she wrote it. She gave me two and a half pages of what she wanted to say, with permission to edit and add accordingly. I decided to then take this opportunity to mix in what I also want to say, while keeping true to the overall point my mother wanted to make.

"Dear Madeline,

To have had you as my sister was an honor, to have you as my friend was a privilege.

You were a great person whom was always there whenever we needed you, no matter what or when. This was especially true when I lost my vision and you became my "Seeing Eye Dog" as you jokingly referred to yourself. You were there for my three kids, Sasha, Luis and Ashley.

You, like everyone else in the family, accepted Ashley into this world with open arms, never looking at her as a child with Downs Syndrome but as any other child, loving her just as much. Your support, courage, selflessness and kindness is something I will forever admire and miss, as well as your beautiful smile and loud hearty laugh.

Madeline, our hearts are forever broken, we are forever changed, not one day goes by that we do not think of you. The stories, the memories will never fade.

Please continue to give us the strength to go on and please give Pa a big hug and kiss from us all.

Till we meet again

Love your sister,
Yvonne Carlo"
