Mark,

You would be proud of the outpouring of support during your funeral. Hundreda of Police Officers from all over the state showed up in force, standing in formation despite the cold brisk wind. Citizens were standing at attention with their hands over their hearts as your procession passed by. Your Mounted Patrol horse "Jake" leading your procession at the cemetary as "The Riderless Horse". It was a sight to see.

I am proud to have known you and worked with you. It was my honor to have been one of the Honor Guard's pallbearers, and to carry you to your final resting place. You will be missed my brother, and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, and farewell.

Though I did not know you well, Mark, I appreciate every aspect you brought to the job and your efforts to impart that to the Park Agents. Along with your huge smile came words of encouragement and wisdom. I recall a couple of time I worked with/assisted you; you were genuinely happy not just to have whatever help, but to teach me (and other Agents) while we assisted. Thank you for that. I'll never forget the picture of the Polar Plunge with you leading "Team Matt" through the icy waters of Lake Calhoun.

I wish I had the opportunity to have known you better, but I am thankful for the time I did have. Rest in peace knowing we got your back down here.

In this time of sorrow, I know it is hard to look back at all of the things Office Mark has/may have accomplished, but being a Police Officer is one of the Biggest accomlishments someone one can achive. I know that he must have spent alot of nights on the street and alot of time away from his wife and family, just remember the reason he did all of that is for them and there safety.
So please keep in mind, when you think you are having a difficult time, touch base with the guys he worked with and they will remind you of everything he was and stood for. His wife has lost a friend, husband and father, however she has also gained a bigger family.
May your grief be short and your memories be forever.

Officer Mark Bedard,

My partners in the state of Texas appreciate what you did on an everyday basis. You helped keep the community of Minneapolis safe for everyone else to live. It was a horrible tragedy that took your life. I feel horrible for everyone who was involved. When an officer needs help, it is going to come from all directions and it is too bad that this accident occured. I thank you and I wish the MPD and your family the best.
