I Never Dreamed it Would Be Me
(By Sgt. George Hahn, LAPD, Ret., engraved on the Peace Officer Memorial in CA, across from the west steps of the Capitol Building.)

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place,
Alas my name, no more my face.
"In the line of duty," I hear them say;
My family now the price will pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee;
I ask for all here from the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Rest in peace brother.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper McMillen, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Brian, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Brian's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Brian's life was about so much more than the way he died. Brian will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Trooper McMillen, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

As I sit here tonight, crying on my keyboard, I still cant believe your gone. Everything I have read is so very true, you were a generous kind and all around fun-loving guy! I remember many memories from basketball and football seasons in high school as well as our wild times on band trips! I can still see you carrying around that giant tuba! To Angela, I did not know you, but to know that Brain chose you to spend the rest of his life with is enough to know that you too are a great person! I have been praying for you, his parents, and ALL of Brian's brothers and sisters every night hoping that somehow that will ease the pain that I can't even imagine. Brian was taken from us all too soon, but I am sure that God has a special purpose for him in Heaven. Angela, stay strong and remember to smile, because that is what I'm sure Brian would have wanted. God Bless you and all of Brian's Family

My husband and I were sound asleep on October 28,2007. Around 3:00am my husband jumped out of bed with a panic like no other. I looked at him and said, "it's ok your not late for work." His respond was," no something is not right." After finding out about Brian no it was not right. And it's not fair. The bond that our husbands share is remarkable, I am proud to be married and part if the ISP.
Rest in peace and we (wives)will take care of Angela.

Certain signs of an exceptional individual: getting elected as president in a landslide vote, voluntarily inviting out-of-towners to a home-cooked meal out of one’s own generosity, uniting 50-60 something diverse individuals, graduating around the top of the class.
You did all that more.
Your ultimate sacrifice shows what cadets in CC 113 know all along –you are an epitome of what an ideal ISP officer is, and you embody the qualities that law enforcement officers should aspire for.
Thank you for your leadership, your example, your inspiration, and your friendship.
You will be missed…
but never forgotten. Viva El Presidente!

Rest in peace.

Final Inspection

The officer stood and faced his God.
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To your church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said,
" No, Lord, I guess I ain’t,
Because all of us who carry badges
Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent
Because the streets are tough.

But I never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got way too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I’ve wept an unmanly tear.

I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here,
Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t… I’ll understand!

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints often trod.
As the officer waited quietly
For the judgment of his GOD
"Step forward now, Officer.
You’ve borne your burdens well
Come walk a beat on heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in hell"

Rest in peace my brother. 10-42.

Describes you perfectly Mac. I'd tell you to rest easy and go 10-42. But, anybody who's ever met you knows that's not your style. I'm sure your probably sitting next to St. Michael(The Patron of Police)right now watching over your fellow officers. Thanks Mac. We got it from here. God bless the McMillen family.
