I have been a friend of Dean Turk's, Dale's uncle for about 9 years now. My family has known the Sherrill family for more than 30 years and all I have ever heard is good things about them. I never had the privilege of meeting Dale, however, he comes from a very good family. My prayers are with you as you go through this very difficult time. I pray that God will give you peace, comfort and strength to sustain this loss. Thank you Investigator Sherrill for protecting the citizens of Texas. May you rest in peace and we look forward to seeing you again when Jesus comes.

As Dale's uncle, I would like to thank each and every person who has posted a memory or condolence, or just a kind word. I can say with certainty that your words here have given a tremendous amount of pride and comfort to Dale's family. He was a great officer, and more importantly, a great father to his children. He will be missed.

Dale began his law enforcement career at Keene PD, riding out with me on many ocassions before he became a reserve for us. One night I got in a pursuit with a car full of juveniles. At the end of the pursuit, as they turned down a dead end road and into a driveway, one of the passengers jumped out of the car before it stopped. I told Dale to "go get him!" Without worry Dale jumped out as we stopped and disappeared in the darkness. Backup units and I arrested the remaining occupants, and I then headed in the direction Dale had gone. I started calling for him, and in a few moments I saw him walking toward me with his hand firmly grasping the juvenile's arm. Dale told me it was too dark for him to see, so he just stood still and listened. After a minute he heard the juvenile moving around. Knowing the juvenile couldn't see him, Dale ordered the juvenile toward him. He then took him by the arm and "arrested" him! The juvenile had no way of knowing Dale was not an officer! That was the beginning for Dale - and he never looked back. I am proud to be able to say that Dale was my nephew.

Dale, I'll see you when Jesus comes again.
