Deputy Hugins , Thanks you brother for serving and rest in peace, watch over the rest of us.

To the family of Depoty Hudgins
You are in my prayers and God bless you, this a terrible time for you and feel as if the pain will not end. Understand you will make it to the other side and you will always miss him. I know since we lost my future son inlaw Joshua Norris this year and know what you are going through. What has helped my family was remmebering his laugh, his smile and the things unique to him. I know he is still near, as is Jerry with your family.

It is hard to believe that Wayne is really gone. He was a good friend to many and a good deputy to the citizens of Coahoma County. He was also a good attentive courtroom deputy, where I got to work around him the most. Over the years there have been some tense moments in the courtroom, but I knew that not only Wayne but the other deputies and other law enforcement would handle the situation and keep everyone safe. I have great trust and respect for our Coahoma County deputies. They have all become great co-workers and friends of mine. In or out of the courtroom, I know that I can depend on them, and when Wayne was in the courtroom, I knew that I could depend on him. Wayne will be missed. May God bless his family and fellow deputies. May God bless all of the law enforcement officers who go out and risk their lives everyday to keep us safe. Your service is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your service Wayne. We will miss you at the courthouse.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Hudgins and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Hudgins has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Hudgins, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Hudgins is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
