Reflections for Police Officer Alfred L. Gordon, Sr.

I remember Al as a nice guy, one that you could talk to very eaisly. He made friends with everyone. He was taken from this earth much too soon. There will be a void.

Someone killed a policeman today and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long lonely nights,
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yep, somebody killed a policeman today
In your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on the dark city street
And he stands at each rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all
And a part of America died.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Gordon and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Gordon has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Gordon, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Gordon is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL DUTY TO YOUR COMMUNITY AND TO YOUR COUNTRY.
We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers at this time of sorrow and dark times ahead. We know that they will
be strong because of all the love and kindness that surround them at this time.

Officer Gordon:
I hope your son understands how special you are for your service to your country and the people of Orlando. Your drawing on a subject with the drop on you was brave but a real hero goes to work every day because his partners or the citizens might need him. You were a hero in life. I do pray your son will draw inspiration not bitterness from your sacrifice and make us proud of him. Rest well brother.
