Gary, you have been a brother to me sine I became a police office almost 5 years ago. You admittedly pulled me under you wing when I started at the Republic Police Department in May of 2003. We worked handed and handed togather many times until you left to Work for Greene County. Then two weeks later I took a Job with the same county just not a a patrolman. You leaving us at such a young age is still a shock in mine and everyone eles hearts that are close to you. Gary you will never know how much your leadership ment to me and I will always remember you for who you are. You undertand where I am coming from when I say this, I love you to death and keep a watch out for us up there, and he I make it maybe we can patrol the streets of heaven togather.

Deputy McCormack will continue to be an inspiration and mentor to the men who knew him. He was a very gifted and caring man, well respected by his peers. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of family and friends that will not soon be filled. My prayers go out for comfort and peace to Stephanie and children, may God who is more than able, comfort and hold you under the shadow of His wing. Psalm 57:1

Gary was not only a good officer, he was also a wonderful family man and friend. My husband worked with Gary for several years at the Republic Police Department, in fact he and Gary rode together several times and really got to know one another. Gary always had a smile on his face and would always have words of incouragement. He knew what his job was and did it in a very profound way. Gary was loved and respected by all that knew him. This has been a very sad weekend and we will miss Gary very very much. We would like to send our condolences to Stephanie and the kids and let them know that they will for every be in the hearts and our prayers.

To the family of Deputy McCormack,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you in this time of grief. I assisted Gary on a couple of service calls. One particular one was when we both were called to a horse on the loose. His dispatcher sent him and my dispatcher sent me and we both didn't know each other were responding to the same call. He looked at me and I at him and we both thought it was pretty funny when we realized what happened. I didn't know Gary on a personal level, but just the few moments speaking with him told me he was a true public servant and cared about people.

To Gary,
Rest now brother. Your example and dedication will be remembered. Thank you for your service to our community. True heroes are never forgotten.

For those of you that didn't know Gary, he was one of the funniest guys you will ever meet. Whether it was his odd phrases or the fact he could make fun out of any situation, he was a good guy to be around. Earlier that evening, he had helped us track down a suspect we had been looking for for over a month. This guy had nearly ran over one of our officers and Gary during a DWI checkpoint on August 31st. He got away that night, but Gary got him just in time.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy McCormack and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy McCormack has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy McCormack, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy McCormack is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A Part Of America Died,

Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
We will keep his family and loved ones and all who wear the badge of law enforcement in our prayers and thoughts during this dark time.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
