I only worked with Gary for close to a year. However, I saw him on several occasions at training seminars since. No one can express in these reflections how fun and funny Gary was. I never had a situation where Gary did not have a wise crack ready and waiting on the tip of his tounge. His face would light up, a smile would come on, and you could see him waiting to have his turn to speak. And when he spoke, it was the funniest thing said in the conversation by far. I hope his family and friends from all over remember him this way. Cox Hospital, RPD, and GCSO all have nothing but good things to say about this guy who should have blessed law enforcement with his presence for years and years.

As the wives of Deputies, we understand something that a lot of people don't. Our husbands put on their uniforms and their belts, their badges and guns and go out each day, knowing the risk, to do their jobs. More than that, they do their jobs in order to make the county where we raise our children a safer place for them to grow up. They take a risk every shift that most people aren't willing to take themselves but expect someone else to do for them and they receive little appreciation for their sacrifice.

My heart goes out to you and your family. The sacrifice your husband has made will not go un-noticed if we do not allow it to. You are in the the thoughts and prayers of every wife of a law enforcement officer. My prayer is that you will find peace in the knowledge that your husband was a good man who did his best to ensure the safety of his family, friends and strangers alike. He deserves the utmost respect and admiration for the life he lived. May God be with you and your family.

To Deputy McCormack all we can say is thank you, all though that is not enough, for your selfless devotion you your county and other places you served. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. You will always be remembered as a hero.

I worked with Stephanie at MFA in Columbia several years ago. Gary and Stephanie hadn't been married long and didn't have any kids yet, but I remember Gary being a big kid himself. He loved to make people smile and Steph was constantly telling stories and laughing at something he did. She talked often about his love of magic and kids and making people laugh. I saw them last year and recognized him immediately. He had one of those smiles you couldn't forget. I'm sure that loveable spirit and positive attitude will be reflected in their children.

Steph, my heart and prayers go out to you and your kids. I'm confident Gary will live on in your children through your memories and those of others who loved him and were loved by him. You are in my thoughts and I pray that God will bless your life with the memories you had together and that He will bring the good times and laughter back to you to bring you comfort in the days and weeks to come. It's easy to see from all that I've read that Gary not only was a blessing to you, but to countless others as well. His humor, love of family, and witness for Christ was clearly evident in the life he lived. May God bring you comfort and peace during these difficult times.

Love and prayers,
Tiffany Gray and family
