Reuben,

It’s been been 13 years since you were selfishly taken away from everyone who knew you and loved you. There is not a day that goes by I don’t think about you and miss you. I wear proudly around my neck your badge with badge number. I have not taken this necklace off of my neck in 13 years. You are severely missed and loved my friend.

From the family of Reuben Deleon -

As we reflect on another year and continue to miss Reuben dearly, we are are pleased to share that on October 12, 2016, Governor Greg Abbott awarded the 2016 Star of Texas in Reuben's honor at the Texas State Capitol. On October 21, 2016 a special segment acknowledging Reuben at the 36th Annual Hispanic of the Year Banquet was also shared among many awarded officers, Lulac member and many other important attendees. We would like to thank everyone who was involved, we are touched and heartfelt. A very special thank you to HPD's Jorge Gayton, for nominating Reuben. We are forever grateful for your exceeding efforts in and making his recognition possible.

Reuben, you continue to make us proud ! You are always loved and remembered.

Shot over a gang initiation. Well, society has a gang initiation program for people like that. The gang won't be doing the time though. Was the gang really that important to you that you would do that? The military would have been a much better "gang" to be a part of. You should have thought of that first.

Ruben,

We were forever linked when you died. We never met formally but I'm sure we passed in the hall. Really soon after your death, many good men participated in the hunt for your killer. I will forever be honored as being one of the men who caught the cowards that shot you. I will always know that God guided our steps as we closed in on those despicable criminals. God bless your memory and your family. Thank you for your service as a Houston Police Officer.

Ruben, you are dearly missed bro and i wish you were here so we could make up for our argument we had prior to you leaving us. I lose sleep at night thinking how stubborn both of us were and never made up for it. I just want you to know you are the best friend partner, dad and person one could ever have. You will be hard to replace and never be forgotten. I love you bro and i know you are in good hands. Mayra and your boys are doing well and in great hands.

Today marks another year where you have been taken from us. Not a day goes by that you are not remembered. Your smile is seen upon every sun rise. Through every breeze is an embrace of your love. You are not forgotten. Through tears shed from your children, family , and friends, you live on. You continue to grow throughout their accomplishments. You are with them everyday and we hope you continue to guide them through. RIP knowing your family continues to love and grow.

Thinking and missing you so much, as your birthday nears ... Your memory and spirit has lives in our hearts each and everyday. I know you are in a much more peaceful place and it's God's plan but still I can't help but wish you could see your children grow and share those special moments with the family again.

I was reading an article about you that mentioned the "Readers Digest Version" of your fatal event, couldn't help but remember how the cops stopped you in the alley one night while you walked home from work. They thought you had a weapon but pulled out a Reader's Digest. I think you may have been the only teenager to conceal a Reader's Digest.. Laughter and tears, im telling you, I MISS YOU REUBEN..

Miss you so much brother... Although your spirit lives on in our hearts, I can't help but wish so badly that you could be here to see your children grow and share happy times with the family. Remembering you each and everyday.

Love you always,

I tried hard to be strong, but in my moments of weakness a wave of regret and sadness washes over me when i think of how you're not here. I miss you the most when i'm happy, because i can't call you and tell you about it to share. That has been bothering me the most lately. I miss you terribly so much, you were right that night when you said things were about to change, I just wish it was the way it was suppose to.

Reuben,

Its been six years now since you were taken from us to serve on heavens beat! I couldn't sleep at all, replaying the events of that sad morning. I just hope you know, that no matter what, you will never be forgotten! Your kindred spirit, wonderful personality, big heart, and comforting smile will always be! Every time I see Ben, I see you all over again! Sometimes I have to do a double take cause I see so much of you in him! And of course I see your charisma, determination, and inner strength reflected through Allie, time and time again! Its crazy how much of you lives on through your children!

I just hope you know that we are all still here, and not a day goes by that we don't think of you! May your wings soar bro!!!! <3
