Reflections for Detective Mario Moreno

The family of Detective Moreno,
My prayers are with you at this time. Your husband and father was a brave soul and died protecting his beliefs. He has made the world safer for all.
Mrs. Moreno,
My daughter, Brandie Crabtree lives in San Antonio and I believe she attends the University with you. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. My deepest sympathies and prayers are with you.

MY HEART IS SAD TO HEAR ABOUT ANOTHER FINE MAN BEING TAKEN FROM THIS WORLD. MAY THE LORD WATCH OVER YOUR FAMILY AS YOU WATCHED OVER OURS. DETECTIVE MORENO GAVE HIS LIFE SO THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE THEIRS. THAT IN ITSELF DISTINGUISHES THESE FINE MEN AND PORTRAYS THE TYPE OF MAN THAT DETECTIVE MORENO WAS. MEN LIKE DETECTIVE MORENO WERE PUT HERE ON EARTH TO STAND UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES AND PROTECT THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO. THE LORD HAS TAKEN BACK HIS ANGEL, WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY, SELFLESSNESS, AND MOST OF ALL YOUR SACRIFICE FOR OTHERS. GOB BLESS YOU SIR.

Rest in peace, my brother. You are now in a much better place. May God wrap his arms of love and comfort around your family, friends, and fellow officers during this most difficult time. "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Detective Moreno

While I do not live in San Antonio, your story was featured in my city's local news paper. I truly wondered to myself how this possibly have happened again! I am currently in the hiring process for the Killeen Texas Police Department and am well aware of the risks I will be taking if hired. But it is hearing of the courage of officers like yourself that will be my guard against backing down when danger strikes and keep my eyes open and moving. Your death was tragic, undescribably, and also not in vain. I will keep you and your family to include the SAPD in my thoughts and prayers

Someone killed a policeman today and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long lonely nights,
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yep, somebody killed a policeman today
In your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on the dark city street
And he stands at each rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all
And a part of America died.

You were a stranger to me. As of Friday September 21, 2007 I didn't know who you were. I didn't know your name. But if I were to see you in your uniform, I know in my heart I could trust you, I would depend on you to take care of anything that was happening in our city. I went to visit you this morning at the funeral home and I saw many of your fellow brothers honoring you. It gave me chills, I felt alot of pride knowing that when something like this happens all the men and women who you worked with were by your side. I cried as I prayed for your soul. I realized that you were my age and that God takes us at anytime. But he also takes the best. Your death was not in vain and I salute you in what you loved to do. You protected us for 11 years sir and I thank you. For your wife and little children, I know in my heart that you will watch over them and that you will always be with them. You are in paradise now and it is your turn to shine! God bless you sir and I promise you that you will never be forgotten. You are truly an American Hero.

Last night I lay in bed
My gut sick and sour
pounding in my head
tragedy struck this hour

Knowing something was not right
the void of not knowing
kept awake half the night
while red lights were glowing

While the world lay sleeping
we are alert and awake
vigilant guard he was keeping
making no mistake

All of us connected by fate
a brother now laid
forever to rest on this date
his oath and promise be paid

St Michael Protect Us ...

For we fight the good fight
leaving our families behind
kissing them good night
going back to the grind

Put ourselves in harms way
so that others may rest
knowing we keep evil at bay
being the best of the best

The blue line has been stained
with the blood of a brother
all feel sorrow and are pained
all feel the loss of another

St Michael Protect Us ...

Hunt them down we yell
none will take rest
find the evil from hell
desecrated our crest

Black band across shield
blue blood ties us together
great strength we do wield
stay strong in bad weather

WHEN ONE FALLS, WE ALL FALL ...
St. Michael Protect ALL of US ...

What a terrible and senseless tragedy. I can only hope that Detective Moreno's Family takes comfort in knowing he was doing what he loved to do and he will forever be looking over them.

In a time like this there are few words that can be spoken to ease the hurt. The law enforcement family is a very strong and close one. Our agency experienced great loss several years ago and we found leaning on each other for support was so important in the healing process. To the family of Detective Moreno please know that our prayers are with you and your family. There are few people in this world that can be an officer and do the job they are trained to do. These men and women go beyond the call of duty. God blesses our communities with these people and once their job on this earth is done they continue their job in heaven as angels watching over the officers that still serve and protect here on earth. God bless and may you all find peace and some comfort as time goes by.
