My heart goes out to all of you during this terrible, terrible time. I cried when I read that his own brother responded to the scene and transported him to the hospital in his patrol car. How I wish the outcome had been different for you all. I am still grieving for the loss of my son, who was the last officer killed in 2006. He had been married for only 2 months and died one minute after midnight 12 years to the day of my husband/my son's father's death. My son was working solo that night because the dept was short staffed. It was not his run, but he was the first responding officer to the scene. My son was the officer who went into the garage to save the elderly people upstairs. The officer who's run it was told us he hesitated and decided to let Bryan go in. My son took the shot in the face. I wish there was something I could do to help you through this devastating time. All I can tell you is to lean on ALL of your department personnel. It is their time to hold you up and carry you all. Cherish his memories and remember....it is not how he died but rather how he lived his life that made him the true hero he is. May God bless you all.

No greater love has a man than this...that he would lay down his life for a friend. The city of Odessa lost a friend as Officer Marquez gave his life for his friends, the city of Odessa. Go rest high on the mountain brother, your service on earth is done. For the Marquez family my prayers are with you that you may someday find peace and comfort in the sacrifice your loved one made. May God bless you and give you peace. Thank you for the sacrifice that you also have made.

I am not sure exactly what to say, except to say I am so sorry that this has happened to you and your family. I was and still am living that nightmare. My husband was a DPS trooper in Monahans whenever he was struck and killed almost 2 years ago. There is a verus that has helped me through some of my toughest moments. It is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for good not evil, to give you a future and hope." Your husband is a hero and he will always be remembered.
