Reflections for Corporal Abel Marquez

BROTHER,
OH HOW I MISS YOU. I HAVE BEEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT 7 YEARS AND WHEN I STARTED AT THE JAIL YOU WERE THERE. WE BECAME GOOD FRIENDS AND BROTHERS. MY HEART HURTS FOR YOU AND ITS BEEN REAL HARD THE PAST DAYS. YOU WERE STRONG AND BRAVE. WHEN I CAME TO SEE YOU IN THAT HOSPITAL I COULDN'T TAKE IT. I HATED SEEING YOUR FAMILY HURT AND SEEING YOU THAT WAY KILLED ME. I WISH I COULD HAVE TAKEN YOUR SPOT AND TOOK THE PAIN FROM YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. YOUR BROTHER IS MY SGT. AND ONE OF THE FINEST MEN I HAVE EVER KNOWN AND THE BEST SGT. AND FRIEND A GUY COULD HAVE. WE HAD ALOT OF GOOD TIMES ON THE STREETS TOGETHER. YOU ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE MY HERO. I KNOW YOU ARE UP THERE WITH GOD WATCHING OVER US. SO PATROL THEM STREETS PAVED OF GOLD CAUSE YOU HAVE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL. I MENT WHAT I SAID IN THAT HOSPITAL ROOM, I LOVE YOU BROTHER AND I WILL SEE YOU ON THE OTHERSIDE.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Corporal Marquez and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Corporal Marquez has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Corporal Marquez, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Corporal Marquez is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"A LETTER FROM HEAVEN"
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

The Watch
For years,
This police officer has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night,
This police officer stood the watch

While some of us were in school learning our trade,
This police officer stood the watch

Yes...even before some of us were born into this world,
This police officer stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen
brewing on the horizon of history,
This police officer stood the watch

Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there,
Needing his guidance and help,
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times,
But he still stood the watch

He stood the watch for years,
He stood the watch so that we, our families,
And our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety,
Each and every night,
Knowing that a police officer stood the watch

Today we are here to say:
"Officer...the watch stands relieved.
Relieved by those YOU have trained, guided, and lead
Officer you stand relieved...we have the watch!"

Thank you to your department for sacrificing three senior officers in the interest of protecting our world.
