Reflections for Deputy Chief George "Bill" Stanford

Deputy Chief Standford, I want to thank you for your patience, time and advise. You lead by example, and proved that “leadership is a way of living.” I will miss you and will always ask myself “what would Deputy Chief say and do in this situation.” You were always fair and I have the utmost admiration for the commitment that you gave to the officers and every civilian of the Cheyenne Police Dept. I wished we could have worked with you for another twenty-two years.

There are people that all of us meet in life whose heart and character is just known. You can see it in the way they smile. You can hear it in the way they talk and how others talk about them. Even though I never had the oppertunity to know him beyond our business dealings, I know that Bill was one of those people. I imagine all who met him know that Bill was one of those people. Farewell Deputy Chief Stanford.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the entire Cheyenne Police Department and the family of Bill Stanford. I first met Bill when we were attending the State PPA meetings many years ago. He was a person I knew I could contact when working on cases or to just talk about what was happening in the law enforcement field. My condolences to all....

That smile and laugh!! What an awsome treat it was to see and hear. I know that your tasks now are much easier where you are and you are doing it with all the perfection that God gives us when we leave to go home. You will not be forgotten, ever! I remember Bill from the years that I was at the CPD as a dispatcher, and when it was a stressful and busy night, he always had a smile on his face, letting us know there wasn't much longer in the shift. My heart goes out to your wife and girls, they will be in my prayers during this time of need. God Bless you and your family!

I met Bill while attending the FBI National Academy in 2001. He was a very outgoing friendly guy--who didn't let his size intimidate anyone--unless he needed to! Bill and I roomed together on our trip to NY--we had a great time and the unexpected news of his sudden passing brought back a flood of memories from that weekend as well as throughout our time in Quantico. His impact was far reaching.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children---may God bless them and help them through this sorrowful time--secure in the fact that his time with us was as God intended, and he is now being rewarded for serving as one of the Lords'peacekeepers here on earth.
