Rest in Peace...

Police Officer
Syracuse Police Dept,NY

August 18, 2007

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, thank you for your service and dedication to the law enforcement field, its men and women like you that make everyday a better plac to live.

Our family wishes to express condolences to the family of officer Chuck Wilson. We have heard so many wonderful things about this young man and the contributions he made during the short time he was with us. I have also heard of the strength and courage his family has shown during this tragic time. I would pray that we could have the same courage should this happen to our son who serves as a police officer in Texas. You will continue to be in our prayers and we thank you so much for the service and protection Chuck gave to all of us. The Jess Bourgeois family.

My heart literally hurts for the families of these fine men. Being a mother of an officer, I realize that at any give time, the sorrow these families feel could be mine. God is good and is in control and this thought is what keeps us going. It takes a special person to be a Police Officer and we must trust God to watch over each one of them.

Chuck! My heart was in great pain after hearing about your death. I was on my way to work when I got the phone call from LA. I had to pull off the roadway and sit there for a minute to get myself together. I will never forget the nickname we gave you in the academy, "Greyhound" because you were the fastest runner there. Even when the rest of us could not keep up with you, we were still excited because you were representing us, BASTROP P.D. lol. I enjoyed working with you 5yrs ago,and I would have been there to back you up that day if I hadn't moved back home to Alabama. I'm gonna miss you my friend, but you will always be in my heart. I love you!!! Kisha
