Sgt. Reyka, your cool and collected nature and uncanny ability to find things made you a good supervisor and a great cop. Even sitting here seeing your face on this of all webpages is tough, knowing that we won't see you again in this life. Rest easy, friend, and know that you are loved and missed very much.

Today is a sad day for cops around the world. Mostly, I'm sad for your family who said goodbye, and did not know it would be their last. I remember meeting you once very briefly. I don't remember the details of our meeting or even if we spoke. I do remember that you seemed to be a good hearted person who loved his job. I remember saying to myself, "That's what I want to be like when I'm that close to retirement." You were the officer who went the extra mile. You were the officer who stood in the rain to change someone's tire. You were the officer who walked down that dark alley despite all of his fears. You were the officer who put his family first. You are truely a hero, and will be remembered by everyone you served.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

No greater love is there than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. Sgt. Reyka you were a friend to the citizens of Broward County and you displayed that friendship with the ultimate sacrifice you made for them. Go rest high on the mountain for your work on earth is done. My prayers go with your family that they might find comfort and peace in the days and years to come. To your fellow co-workers I wish you the best of luck in catching the low-life scum that did this to a brother. Godspeed my friend.

Sarge this couldnt have happened to a better person. I remember I rode with you for a day when i was on FTO and I pulled over that truck that was running red lights. The guy turned out to be a Fed and when he showed his badge i didn't know what to do so i took his whole wallet back to you to show you. You gave me this weird look like.. why the hell did you take someones wallet. haha. You were a great Sgt. and you will be missed. I pray that we catch who did this. RIP Sgt. Reyka.
